"Interestingly, both Laird and fellow South African trainer Tony Rivalland bought yearlings by stallion General Nediym (AUS), whose filly Military Rose thrashed all-comers in Saturday’s Magic Millions Classic.

General Nediym was a Gr. 1 winning sprinter who won five of his 13 races at 2. The stallion was put down in January 2009 after a severe attack of colic."

13 races at two(and becomes a stallion)? I wonder what the record for races run at two is in SA(in the last ten years or so)? I'm amazed at how some international trainers get their babies to race more in one season than most SA horses run by the end of their three=year-old campaigns. Surely not all of our horses need time to mature? Costs owners money especially if the horse is poorly bred and has shown nothig in work - a 10k baby soon becomes a 100k loss and another owner leaves the game in disgust.
