Question owners to trainers.
15 years 4 months ago
Is it not time that some trainers revue their training methods and start looking after their owners, some trainers have got the old ways of waiting upto 6 weeks before your horse gets a run, others run them after a week, surelly some of our trainers have to revue their ways.Obviouslly not all horses are the same, but in lots of instances horses could get runs in a shorter period thus making the grumpy owners feel good about the game, and taking off the pressure when those bills arrive. One instance i recall was 1 of my horses ran twice in the space of thirteen days and won twice that opened up the trainers eyes, but it was not long before he resumed his old ways.Well its a shot in the dark lets see if something happens.

Zoro I hear you, Buddy Maroun was exceptional and so was his father at getting horses to run and to run well as often as he could, he believed that they were born to race and as a result that's what he encouraged. In the UK they seem to do it on a much more regular basis not sure about Ausie, States and Hong Kong though ?

The sooner the better - just as long as the NHRA do their job and if a horse that is running very often goes down short then scratch. I have completely changed my outlook on racing horses with short breaks(I used to think this was crazy thanks to trainers telling me so!! - seeing de Kock, Snaith etc doing this succesfully has opened my eyes forever and my motto now is "less work more racing")

I agree 100%.
I have come to believe that 14 days is optimally the worst gap between runs.
In the UK a little while ago a horse ran on Friday and won a Gr1 the following day. Often the best runs horses have is the run following a run a few days earlier. 2nd run after a layoff has proven to be better than the 3rd and an old wives tale, and horses winning after a break is more likely than not.
If I can find a trainer who runs a horse often when it's well and gives it a break when they train off, that's where I will go.

a prominent breeder had a horse with me year ago - the horse did not run in two seasons - eventually this chap took the horse to his farm for about three months to get over all his pains - the horse went into training again and was ready to race within 6(six) weeks - Made debut and won - sometimes nature is far better than being in hard work every day - I hope your guy gets back on track Elvis in smilar fashion

Hi Elvis
Good news that your boy is back anyway. FB last ran in June after reappearing the previous month from a 6 1/2 month break due to knee chips. He has undergone another knee chip operation and who knows if he will run again. He still looks a million dollars.
Maybe a race over 1160m for old crocks could tempt him out of retirement.

Gajima i had the unfortunate experience of owning horses with knee chips, the one was a 6 time winner called Formula one,he was a very good horse and so when he had his first chip removed it took a year before he got back onto the track.I still recall that they had to use a medicine (forgot the name)which was like a lubricant injected into the knee everytime he ran,the good news was it certainlly helped as the horse earned his keep, but this medicine cost a grand a time, but if you have a fair beast its fine but the agony and wait feels like eternity.
