In a sea of online bookies, why Interbet?

Take a look at the mindbogglingly-stunning J&B Met official website for 2010 here - www.jbmet.co.za
Two weeks remain until the J&B Met 2010 and this must surely rank up there as one of the most anticipated races ever as Pocket Power takes aim at his 4th consecutive victory in Cape Town’s premier racing event. Pocket’s exploits are already legendary and every time he steps out it’s a ‘historic occasion in the making’. On the big day expect nothing less than a mighty roar from across the country and the world, in support of Pocket Power when he bursts through the pack at the 200m marker to deliver his trademark unbeatable glide to glory! Pocket Power is anti-post favourite to win at 15/10 with 37/20 (18½/10) available on Interbet (see trading page screen shot below)
J&B Met anti-post betting as of Friday morning 15th Jan-10. For help with how to read the Interbet trading interface (abbreviated version pictured) read on..
The bombs are back!
KZN racing this weekend is at Scottsville on Sunday and the highlight of the day must surely be Dennis Drier’s stranglehold on the 4th race where he fires his 3 top rockets into a hopelessly outgunned field of opposition sprinters. Shark’s Bay, Charming Lady and Clearly Silver are amongst the top names in the KZN ranks and what a pleasure to see the return of these 3 to the racetracks. In fact, with the rain having laid back over the last week or two, training is back in full swing so expect local racing to burst out of the weather enforced doldrums over the coming months, and bring with it an explosion of punting opportunities – bang time!
Hi there podcasters..
Catch Interbet’s audio podcast preview of the Sunday meeting by James Goodman who continues to stay on the mark with his race reading prowess. Goodman delivered his measure yet again on Wednesday when labeling the odds on favourite Groovy Day as ‘lay of the day’ in the 8th race.. the rest of us made her a good thing! She went on to get humiliated into 3rd place and was undoubtedly responsible for the very generous R37k Pick6 payout on the day. The remaining legs saw all the fancied horses score, with the highest win payout being only R4.30! So, a phat Pick6 payout indeed, all thanks to the odds one favourite taking a dunking. Well done James you must’ve got the lot!
Key features of Interbet’s fixed-odds exchange
If you’re new to Interbet and battling to get to grips with the online trading interface, check out the screenshots below for an explanation of each column and the realtime information contained therein.
Interbet may appear complicated at first glance but the information contained in the trading columns is vital for anyone serious about making money on punting the geegees.
The ‘Odds’ and ‘Back’ columns display up to the minute price information. Retail pricing on the left (Odds column), Interbet prices on the right (Back column). The rand value in red (underneath odds value), reflects the liquidity/amount you can wager at those odds. The percentages displayed in the column header represent the book margin or Bookies’ profit. 100% = a zero margin book, anything above this is the layer’s/bookmaker’s theoretical profit. Interbet book percentages are on average half that of market retail which equates to anything from 30% to 100% better odds!
This is the kicker! The ‘Vol’ column shows the turnover in rands for each horse as it happens and Interbet is the only SA website to provide this ‘inside info’. Don’t be fooled by the Bookies shortening prices on a whim old school style.. watch this column and see exactly where the real money goes – rand for rand. NB. By clicking on the trade/vol amount, a window will pop up displaying a breakdown of odds and turnover on the selected runner.
The ‘Profit’ and ‘CB’ columns work together and track your personal wager information per event. A bookmaker’s calculator is built in here and the ‘Profit’ column shows your profit/loss scenario for each horse. This is how the Bookmakers balance their books and it’s a vital tool for taking cover bets and/or backing more than one runner in a race. No handheld calculator required because Interbet’s software takes care of all the math behind the multiple selections. The ‘CB’ column displays the traditional ‘bookmaker’s ticket’ info - how much you stand to win vs. how much you’ve wagered on each horse in the said event.
Tote betting with Interbet
Tote betting with Interbet offers single click access to the Saftote pre-race dividend screen so you can keep tabs on Tote will-pays across all bets. Just click on the ‘saftote information’ button (pictured) and the display window will pop up before you can say saftote.com
TIP. If you want to keep a separate trading screen open for Tote and Bookmaker betting on Interbet, simply open another browser window and login to Interbet as per usual and you’ll have two sessions open, one for Bookies and one for the Tote.
Be sure to visit us on again on Facebook here this weekend for James Goodman’s podcast as well as my two cents in writing for the KZN meeting on Sunday. Remember you can also keep up to date with all that’s happening on the SA racing scene with your mobile phone – visit our mobi-news site at news.interbet.co.za (from your cellphone web browser).

Its not the technology offered by Interbet, every bookmaker can get the same.
Interbet will outstay the bookmakers.
Moral reasons.
Moral reasons only.
guaranteed payout by the interbet company as soon as the all clear for that specific race.
bookmakers bets are only guaranteed to R200k by GOBA.
many a punter is still awaiting the GOBA/Prinsloo wrapup of the PTA Prinsloo venue.
The same happened with many a case when the punters waited for GOBA/BOOKMAKER closure in the past...Turfontein Marble arch....Bruma...etc
Hence it is a risk to bet with any bookmaker, even if GOBA guarantees the R200K.
you will not be paid immediately like in the case with Interbet.
Bookmaking is not a sustainable business.
Racketeering on the other hand is.
Hence in South Africa we have bookmakers, who will soon fold and fall by the wayside, and Racketeers, who should be locked up by the gambling board.
There is no bookmaker running a sustainable business on a mathematical business model, that can keep a bookmaker in business for 12 months.
There are many a Racketeering business, where the jockey rides for the racketeer, or the Jockey rides for a sindicate, or the starter relays the R10k bribe for pulling the horse, grabbing on the the starting stall gate pole...etc
why do you think guys like Derek are selling.
Moral values.
and moral values only.
can also be a Racketeer, blackmail, not bribe the jockeys.
I will stick the lot out in 6 months.
Flynn did it.
You think another Flynn will not come.
I know we believe that the bookmakers are doing well.
guess thats the guys that believe with my gardener and housekeeper.
instead of having 5 or 10 bookmaker outlets, have the same number of KFC's or Romans Pizza shops....then I might believe you.

too early in morning for the doof-doof music.
" This is the core of J&B Met day at Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town on the last Saturday of January of every year.it’s a gathering of the rich and famous, the fashion junkies and the thousands who seek to explore the intensity of life in the hubbub of the milling crowds ".
and a few horseracing fans?

business men not taking up the oppertunity.
