MICHAEL ROBERTS HANDICAP (R125000 SUNDAY 17 JANUARY 2010 AT SCOTTSVILLE)
SELECTIONS NO 1 THANDOLWAMI
NO 15 HYPOTHETICAL
NO 2 AUTUMN FROST
NO 5 MR ESPLENDID
Trainer Michael Roberts has won this race named in his honour once before, but his entrant here NO 4 WEST COAST GOLD needs to show a lot of improvement if he is to score here as his recent form in the Eastern Cape has been moderate. The race is however very competitive and I am ignoring the last disappointing run of NO 1 THANDOLWAMI when trying blinkers and is my choice. Jockey Sean Cormack has done well aboard THANDOLWAMI and trainer Craig Eudey and this horse in particular deserves feature success. One of his many dangers could come in the form of his ex boss Alistair Gordons charge NO 15 HYPOTHETICAL. Drawn well and ridden by jockey Lucian African, HYPOTHETICAL comes in with a lightish mass and should be well suited to this course and distance. NO 2 AUTUMN FROST is capable but lacked a little extra right at the death of his last race but Jockey Anthony Delpech and trainer Mike De Kock can never be ignored so AUTUMN FROST needs to be included in all bets. NO 5 MR ESPLENDID has changed stables since two promising Gauteng runs but this trip may be a touch on the sharp side for him and he does have a wide draw to overcome and Brandon Lerena will have to be at his best to get this one home first. NO 3 CAPE TOWN will find this type of company much more to his liking and he has a winning chance. NO 6 MONTEREY BOULEVARD is well drawn and has a chance. NO 8 GOLD MAN will be hpoing for some give in the ground and could run into the money. NO 9 DELLOTTO is up in class but could place. NO 10 SELECT THE STAR is usefull enough on his day and could place. NO 11 SHIPWRECK is consistent but needs to do more to win it but could earn a cheque. - Ryan Roberts

West Coast Gold 2008 and Tropical Empire 2009. I can't see the hat trick coming today, but with handicaps you never know.

Kentucky express runs midweek. smashed night time on debut. 4 or 5 winners from the same race.
If well must be a good bet.

like Rothschild Ruby in race 6, ew @ 11/1.
Both wins this course & distance, won well in soft going before, 3rd run after a layoff, stable in decent form, distance last run a bit sharp and was only 1.6 lengths back.
