three months rehab - and then back to the academy (so that he can be kept under control)in KZN for the remainder of his one year sentence allowing him to ride work for three months and then gradually getting him back into race riding.

CnC,

I'll sign, no problems.

1 year is WAAYYYY too much. Keep him under supervision and cultivate the investment already made in him.

I'm sure Chris Snaith can help. He assisted yougn Coleman in his hearing. He rides for the snaiths and I'm sure they don't want to see him canned for 1 year!!!

I can recall Luke receiving a 1 year or 2 year "holiday' for either coke or dagga. You cannot come pissed to the track. He has had his chances. Its not like he ever rides a winner. I think a career change may do him good.

Ill gladly sign it.i cant imagine anton marcus getting suspended for a year.different league of rider here i know but u stil fry all ur fish in one pan.anyways like sum1 said earlier put him in a rehab with maybe a 1-3 month ban and/or a suspended sentance.a means of positive assistence to prevent it happening again rather than mess up his life to achieve this goal.everybody deserves a second chance.fortune and gerodis got it and now they are greatness in the making.i wonder if there was a lady involved lol most guys know wot can happen when the female sex clouds our judgement at a club or party:) u never knw what happened.the real story.maybe we wil find out later but atm i believe this punishment is not the way to go.

So ...Give the guy a break phum

And while we are about it let's ;

Be more sympathetic to the use of prohibited substances

and/or

When a horse is 'pulled up' pardon everyone involved if they didn't pull too hard

and/or

Cluck away sympathetically when your next 'good thing' gets beaten and the jockey announces he might have done better if he had been sober.

From what I have heard ( and my sources are reasonably reliable ) this WAS already an abuse of the second chance.

Zero tolerance. Works for me.

Garrick,

I don't disagree that there should be zero tolerance for substance abuse, but 1 year???
Nothing constructive gets done with offenders. They get shipped off, given a bottle and told to enjoy themselves.....

Surely there should be a way of not only dishing out penalties, but helping as well.

Also all the fines should be uniform. Fine EVERYONE the same for similar or same offences. This includes drugs, alcohol, doping the works!!!

Must admit i thought Johnny G put more effort when he was on "e", and hope they legalise "dagga" soon...cause then the crime rate will come down and more job opportunities arise...sure all of us tried it at some stage...not a big deal...the grooms sure put effort in...

And yes, Lukie deserves a 2nd chance...all of us make mistakes and what's life without 2nd chances...i also got one...

I also seem to recall that this was his second chance. If so the lad needs help, and there is no disgrace in that. Maybe Andrew Fortune should have a word in his ear? But there are some jobs where impaired judgement is potentially very dangerous and I fear that I kinda have to be with Garrick on this one.
