Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) Africa has completed an independent audit of the TAB computerised betting system and found that no bets are placed after an event is closed.

TAB recently completed a thorough investigation into the differences between dividends at the start of a race and the final official payouts. Phumelela and Gold Circle were totally satisfied that no bets were being placed into pools after the close of a race, but in order to further reassure TAB customers GLI was commissioned to carry out an audit of the wagering system.

GLI is a global company with its headquarters in the USA. It has long been the leading independent gaming industry testing and certification laboratory and is utilised by more than 450 gaming regulators in jurisdictions all over the world.

GLI is also approved by South African regulatory authorities to certify systems for use within the South African betting and gaming market.

I have no doubt that there are no late bets being placed, as I have said from the beginning but the two things that still irk me is that there is such a drastic swing right on the off (and this is due to the weight of money coming in from overseas. Their currency is MUCH stronger than ours and if bet into our pools of course they will make a HUGE difference).

Number two is that we still don't know exactly which race meetings get bet into and which don't.
This should be dissaminated by Phumelela so that we know when/where Mr. Phantom is going to have a bet which WILL affect our final payouts.

This just sums up the lack of concern in what the problem really is.

1. Bets are still being placed into the pool almost a minute after the off but BEFORE the pool has closed.
2. There are suggestions that the pool is being hacked. This can be done to a bet placed before the pool is closed. Ask Andre.
3. Tickets are similarly being cancelled for large amounts after the off but BEFORE the pool has closed.
4. There are suggestions that tote machines have been used to place bets after the result is known due to late closure of the pool.
5. Human error and manual intervention.

The only way this can be resolved is that ALL bets are recorded in the system before the off, and that the system checks are water tight to prevent hacking or unauthorised access after the off.

It really is quite simple and the latest press release is just another insult to our collective intelligence.

I am sure that the rippling effect must be of concern

example : you now have the man in the street no intention of tote manipulation, however well aware that strange or erratic things happen at the death.

He sits with his R500 or a grand on the fav tote wins.

Lets say the horse is 15/10 bookies and he is watching the tote board at its changing between R3.00 and R1.80? just as they are about to jump the tote board is showing a silly amount for a 15/10 shot, lets say R1.60 and he recons thats mad and cancels his bet at the off in panic as he feels he is not getting value.

At this stage he is not sure if its going back to R3.00 or coming down to R1.20?

Just how many punters fall into this group who traditionally have just put a bet on and been confident that on 15/10 shot it would pay between R2.80 and R2.20 its never been a train smash before.

It must be a consideration to many punters and now we end up creating our own erratic markets?

The average punter that wants to cancel a big bet will be shunted at the tote window with stories of filling in forms etc Dave - It is the "special needs" punter that gets to cancel big ammounts if rumours and the television is to be beleived

THEY BETTER carry out an audit of the wagering system....closing odds publicised surely should be frozen and honoured in payouts...why should the punter absorb fluctuations in the post-closing odds??? Because Phumelela doesnt want to absorb these fluctuations - so they pass it on to the customer thinking we won't mind or are too stupid to notice?!

Waiting for the press release about this audit....(ref Andre West, let them check the logs)....its a bit like going to the grocery store, buying an item with a labelled price and when getting to the till, when it is revealed that its double the price!!

How long has this trend been going on btw?

sorry, the question then is meant to be: when did co-mingling start?

Its been with us a long time started with the French blind tote fiascos, remember Dettori winning on a 6/1 shot returned R2.10 and was "not" the tote fav, post is on the site.
Then steadily other markets to the extent we have today where the co mingling additions after our off time are making payouts erratic and many R1.00 places which remains a major concern to many tote punters.
