HAROLD STERLEY - Hear The Drums is absent from the Fairview Merchants Sprint this afternoon which makes for a more competitive race. There are a few runners in this 1200m dash that fully deserve a win on the strength of recent form. A close contest is on the cards.

Barthez was beaten by Hear The Drums in six of his last seven starts. His recent credentials make for good reading. Three starts back this Goldkeeper gelding fully extended Port Elizabeth’s champion sprinter and the gap at the line was just half a length.

In their latest encounter Barthez was once again runner-up to Hear The Drums by slightly more than a length. He has won twice over this course and distance and is weighted to put up a solid performance. Miller Time returns from a rest of 63 days after a pleasing third to Hear The Drums and is 0.5kg better off with Barthez for a one length beating.

There should be very little between the two once again. Ocean’s Away drops by 5kg compared to his last start. He receives weight from a few runners in this event. Given this advantage he is sure to be involved in the finish.
