Good morning Bob has been a couple of trains of thought regards the meeting

1) Its good to give poor horse a chance to win
2) A shocking card and does racing no good

Well we also have Ngong today!

Probably a pick 6 for the hard core punter with Humberstone(Makhubo) the banker.

Good punting!

Follow Abie Makhubo at Vaal meeting on Sunday

RXP

NICCI GARNER - Abie Makhubo looks the one to follow at the Vaal on Sunday when Leg 2 of the Work-Riders’ Challenge will be held. Several of his mounts have point-scoring chances.

Makhubo’s best chance of a winner comes in Race 7 over 1400m when he partners banker Humberstone.

Mike de Kock’s filly has racked up a win and three places from five career starts and last time out following a two-month rest, tired late to fourth behind Vareuse over 1000m here. She coughed post-race that day, which is a concern, but the form has been well franked.

She tries further now, but is bred to stay the trip and with Makhubo’s undeniable skill in the saddle, looks hard to beat.

* The Challenge is run over three meetings. Riders earn points: 10 - first, seven - second, five - third and three - fourth. At the first meeting Makhubo, who won last year’s Challenge in spite of missing the final fixture, won the R5,000 bonus for the highest-scoring rider on the day. The final fixture is on 1 May.

The top Challenge riders win R20,000 for first, R10,000 for second and R5,000 for third and the winner will receive an award at the Highveld Feature Season Awards ceremony.

Since we have no Bloem this is the alternative. The smaller owner that may have a battler gets a weekend chance to see his charge compete(if he makes the 45min trip). The Vaal meeting on the 11 Feb is another example - many of the races were oversubscribed and reserve runners in many races. We must take care to keep the Bread and butter owner involved as a big owner that leaves the game causes a huge gap (The Jaffees are a prime example and the Becks owning less. If Mr Jooste decided to quit local racing we'd have a major problem) Not ideal but the more rides the work riders get the better for owners as they are a vital cog in the prep of a winner.

Workriders...hmmmm.

Best Bet:

Race 2 # 1 Azarias Houdalakis Nel (1/1)

Accumulators:

Race 1 # 2 Destiny's Lady Houdalakis Matshokotsha (33/10)

These are not accumulators, but watch support for decent PLACE ODDS:

Race 3 # 3 Flight Fantastic (4/1)
Race 7 # 3 New Girlfriend (7/1)
Race 8 # 2 Volovolo (5/1)

Enjoy, and GO PROTEAS!
