BIRTHDAY GIRL / Van Niekerk
15 years 4 months ago
Did you see this???
Van Nierkerk on Birthday girl DID everything on the last metres not to stay third.
i have never seen something like this: he really absolutely tried to stop his horse and nearly fell down...
i think he betted maybe on the third? (possible because the third was la dazzle of the ramsden-stable which is winning a lot today...)

With all due respect Saldiani, if you have a look at the head on you can clearly see that Birthday Girl gets cramped between the 2nd an 3rd for galloping room in the last few meters.

Under the old rules there probably would have been an objection and it would have been upheld. He was clearly hampered.

Ok,first: I didn't bet on this horse! I even bet on the third, so actually i should be happy.
second: "if you have a look at the head on you can clearly see that Birthday Girl gets cramped between the 2nd an 3rd for galloping room in the last few meters."
i saw the head on only once (i have no recording, sorry) - but i couldn't see this.
if it is my fault, then i really excuse myself. but actually i could not see, what you discribe. but i saw, that the rider van n. was looking back to the fourth position. that made my suspicion even more reasonable.
maybe he just felt the horse too near and was afraid of collosion, maybe.
nevertheless there should be an inquiry, i think, even if the rider is unguilty.

As a punter from side on camera you have to query.
If now Objection lodged by the rider or the trainer or the Stewards you have to ask questions and assume the worst.
Replays dont generally get the head on after hours.
An objection would at very least reduce supsicion for the general viewer.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED
a) Jockey G Behr replaced Jockey K Neisius on SUNBED.
b) Jockey M J Byleveld, the rider of DIVA DANCER, reported that he felt something amiss with this filly in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the filly on her return to the unsaddling enclosure.
c) Shortly before the finish BIRTHDAY GIRL (App G van Niekerk) had to check off the heels of OCEAN OF TIME (AUS) (F Coetzee), which shifted inwards away from the crop. An Inquiry will be opened regarding this report.
d) SUNBED (G Behr), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D Kannemeyer was advised. (S Naude)
THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED
a) DIVA DANCER (M J Byleveld) made a poor recovery. (Dr M Ledger)
b) LADY IN LOVE (K Jupp) returned suffering from an epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of three months, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr M Ledger)

Thanks Hibernia, jockeys/apprentices get slated way to easily before the facts are known. Even a blind person could see from the SIDE ON (never mind the head on) that Birthday Girl was being squeezed.

to mark neisius:
first you told us: "at the head on you can clearly see, that Birthday Girl gets cramped between the 2nd an 3rd for galloping room in the last"
(even if this had been true, there should have been an objection!!!)
now, after the report:
"Shortly before the finish BIRTHDAY GIRL (App G van Niekerk) had to check off the heels of OCEAN OF TIME (AUS) (F Coetzee), which shifted inwards away from the crop. An Inquiry will be opened regarding this report."
you tell us:
"Even a blind person could see from the SIDE ON (never mind the head on) that Birthday Girl was being squeezed."
So now there were only two horses involved? so what about your first commentary? blind?
sorry, but: i saw the side on 5 TIMES. nothin you could see there (maybe on a big screen, ok)
but i believe the report, because other explanations seem unlikely.
nevertheless you should ask yourself, if you are not blaming people too easily.
i was just asking, if everything was right! you are near to insulting, obviously not having seen attentively
