Sulla looking for revenge with Scrutinize

MEL KAPLAN - Scrutinize beat Sulla by over 10 lengths in a race over 1 600m at Flamingo Park on 11 January. They meet again this arteroon in a Pinnacle Stakes over the course and distance and although only 2.5kg better off Sulla has a definite chance of taking his revenge for that defeat.

Scrutinize is a consistently good performer, but Sulla has better course and distance form with four wins from nine efforts. His sole unplaced run from his last eight starts was a 4.25-length sixth to Wooden Express over 1400m after being thrown off his stride when cramped early on.

While Sulla is again up in class compared to his last two races, Scrutinize has raced only once since their last clash and was not disgraced in fourth to Martini’s Way. The raw form suggests that he should again take the measure of Sulla who jumps from the outside berth in the eight-strong field. Scrutinize is better drawn at No 4 but the back straight is long enough for Sulla to overcome any disadvantage.

Sulla will be at significantly longer odds than Scrutinize, the likely favourite. Whichever of the two you prefer it should be a good contest and both must be included in all exotic bets. Eagle Eye looks the other runner likely to finish in the Trifecta.

Pretoria is coming to form steadily and should take the opener, a Maiden plate over 1000m. Handsome Assembly has a fair chance in Race 2 over 1400m. Stable companion Pallas Green looks the danger.

The horse nearly wins in Jhb in an admittedly not too strong field,but now Spies takes it to Kimberley for what basically amounts to a 'half-stakes' race.Makes no sense to me.
