De Kock after more 2,000 Guineas glory

Preview: UAE, Thursday

UAE 2,000 Guineas (Group 3) 1m, AW (Tapeta), 3yo

The UAE 2,000 Guineas over 1m has attracted the maximum field of 14 with Group 1 winners from the southern hemisphere providing stern opposition for the likes of the David Simcock-trained Dubai Miracle.

Musir (De Kock/Christophe Soumillon) is following the same route as the trainer's previous winners Asiatic Boy (2007) and Honour Devil (2008), who both won the 1m trial.

Victory Moon also won this contest for De Kock and all three went on to win the UAE Derby on World Cup night.

Ahmed Ajtebi replaces Frankie Dettori on Godolphin's Frozen Power, who chased home Musir last time.

What they say

Tiago Pereira, jockey of Oroveso
"He ran well first time but needs to build on that on these terms. It looks a good race."

William Buick, jockey of Dubai Miracle
"He worked well for me the other morning and is well drawn. It is a big step up, but I am hoping he can surprise a few people and run a big race."

Richard Hills, jockey of Quartier Latin
"We have watched the tapes of his races in Argentina and Doug [Watson, trainer] really likes him. He is working well enough but not extravagantly."

Stephane Chevallier, assistant to Jerry Barton, trainer of Della Barba and El Amarillista
"They are both reasonably drawn and Olivier [Peslier] probably has the better chance on Della Barba, who was second in a Group 1 on his most recent outing. The trip should suit him, while El Amarillista has a lot to find."

Eoghan O'Neill, trainer of Maroon Machine
"He is in good form and has thrived since arriving. It is a tough race and the feeling seems to be that southern hemisphere runners have an edge."

Antonio Cintra Pereira, trainer of Real Secret, Olympic Danz and Jardim
"Jardim and Olympic Danz were beaten in the trial, so Real Secret is our best hope. He is a Group 1 winner in Brazil and unbeaten after three starts. They were on turf, but Tapeta does not seem to bother him."

Ryan Moore, jockey of Storm Chispazo
"He is a nice prospect with Group 1-winning form but that was over a lot further. He has won on dirt and turf and goes well enough in the mornings."

Saeed Bin Suroor, trainer of Frozen Power
"He was stayingon strongly in the trial and the extra furlong should be in his favour. Musir has a weight advantage as well this time and there are some nice other horses to beat in a tough race."

Pat Smullen, jockey of Rock Jock
"He ran okay in the trial, but the mile may just stretch his stamina in this company. He is a nice young horse with scope to improve."

Mike De Kock, trainer of Solid Choice and Musir
"The draw may not be ideal for either but Kevin [Shea] and Christophe [Soumillon] are experienced enough. Musir was champion juvenile in South Africa and he has plenty of natural speed and a touch of class. He should stay and is a big runner. Solid Choice will appreciate the mile but has ground to make up on Musir and is worse off at the weights."

Greg,

I also like Muhteeb but what about Le Drakkar? Are you willing to give him a bye on his first overseas start? He is at 10/1 right now......that could be a nice swinger with Muhteeb?

I can't believe Musir is 9/10.....perhaps 15/10 or so, but 9/10.....No value there. Hope he runs well

Musir drawn in the sticks, I'll be surprised if he wins... 9/10 puke :(

Tomy... Le Drakkar, I'm not sure, but will probably take a sentimental swinger.

Mutheeb x Le Drakkar x Barbeque Eddie :)

If Musir is as good as people on these pages say he is then if he were drawn on the motorway next to the track he should be good enough to beat this field.

Emirates Champion
Leahurst
Musir
Snaafy

I know its a Scotia type of selection but...

Careful Greg if Scotia reads this and sees that you are calling him a chicken he may not take to kind to it and you may end up sitting outside his box at Turffies rather than in it when you venture there again.
