Prepaid Package plan for racing - could it work?
15 years 3 months ago
As we have ‘contract’ phones and package flight and holidays would racing not benefit with an on course package plan for Day trippers
A – R120(including fast food type meal – choice of maybe three – burger, etc – drink/beer/glass of wine – Computaform express and R60 betting voucher) dress code none. Seated in Kelvin’s or similar venue downstairs.
B – R160 (same as above but meal is buffet type – my local restaurants offer Sunday lunch at between R50-R80 buffet type.) Dress code casual and seating in casual type venue.
C – R250 (same as above but venue room – Meal is perhaps R100 and betting voucher R140) Dress code smart
These pre-paid packages then limit the fear of overspend on gambling by non-gamblers. The package could be sold as a complete day activity and compete with other ‘things to do’ on weekends.
To expand on this boxes such as Phumelela and RA box could offer a complete package instead of the R1500 rental for the day. R120 per head (I presume 20 people can be accommodated per box not sure if the present running ad says anything about how many people can be accommodated and if the R1500 is just for the box rental) including a ‘pub style lunch’ and one drink. The cash bar and betting turnover in the box will add to coffers. This can be sold as a venue for bachelor’s parties, birthdays, corporate day’s etc. The idea is to sell a complete day out at a fixed price – obviously people will spend more as they drink and gamble. These packages can be advertised in the citizen(or other media) or on the 702 website and can be expanded to fathers day and other promotions. The secret is to get the meal prices and menu set so that anyone that wishes to take up the offer knows where they stand and the value they get for the spend. Sell racing as a once a year activity to the non-gambler as you would a trip to the zoo or a booze cruise on the Vaal river. Might just take off but at the very least you have a ready made package available for all occasions.
As an aside could be a complete gift for dad or brother/husband etc like a gift voucher?

Good man Mr H. I like the thinking. Planning of have a few groups of soccer lads over for the World Cup to show off what facilites we have here in comparison with the UK. for a song, will be no rip off factor.

Newton's Law Element "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction" I cannot just find fault or just give praise or no progress will be made. I'm being honest though when I say that my passion is dying fairly rapidly but the excitement I felt during my first 15-20 years of racing has kept me going.
My own personal mantra is: "A problem is just an invention waiting to happen"
so let's hope many solutions are found to the problems we face.

Does anybody know how many of those yuppies that were targeted last year have gone back to the track etc/ what is their current involvement in racing - is it ongoing or has it fizzled out and why. What is the ROI on that exercise?

the plan was to form a data base and to try invite them to a meeting a month and grow attendance through word of mouth and functions (no longer involved so I really don't know)
