Noseweek ?

Has any one read the article in Noseweek pertaining to the night racing debacle, I just did and found it very disturbing and interesting.
If this is the way racing is being conducted we have cause for concern.
50 million for lights ?????????

I have read the article and cannot believe that one person on a personal vendetta is allowed to bring horse racing into disrepute the way he does. It is time for Advocate Maselle to be thrown out of racing altogether.

Shortly before going to press, Maselle
told us that the residents of Glenavon
Road near Turffontein have been so
badly affected by the floodlights that
they are forming a residents’ association,
and that they have asked him to
help them bring an application against
Phumelela. One resident told noseweek
that the flood lights are so bright
that he no longer needs to switch on his
home lights.

What about these residents, are they also on a personal vendetta?

Really Sharouk only ONE person bringing racing into dispute hard to believe .
I would like to believe that a publication like Noseweek will not undertake to publish an article that is not true. The article does not portray Phumelela in a very good light ,does it ?
And please don't forget that this is a democracy and each and everyone has the right of freedom of speech.

Well said Superstar; lots of unanswered questions on the night racing issue; Sharouk what would you have done if you were one of the residents?

I ask the question - is advocate Maselle concerned about the lights and the supposedly affected residents. Or is he intent on scoring points against Larry Wainstein and the RA?

I think both; but this does not take away the plight of the 'supposedly affected' residents - I have not read the article, but where there is smoke, there is usually a fire. My personal opinion is that the money invested in the lights could have been more wisely spent - an all weather track springs to mind

surely if you are a resident and the lights are in your eyes etc you can call out the metro police (nuisance bylaws i think) It is a common practice in many suburbs - if this has not been done then to be honest do the residents really have such a big problem as they should have complained already? ( I don't support night racing because I would rather have had an all-weather but to be fair how much harm is actually being done to the residents considering the noise and lights in the area that already exist?)

Well done to Advocate Maselle for having a winner in Cape Town today. I hope that this lightens his mood :D

Been away from the pc a bit the last few days, part of my ADMIN role on abc is to clear new members.

All new members have to be cleared by answering an email and answering a few questions to fend of spammers,Somehow Sharouk was able to join with out going through these procedures.

Having done a bit of digging around i have found there is an old Administrator named Fedora(set up in 2007) who was logged onto the site 2 minutes before the new account was cleared.

So for security reasons i have locked both Fedora and Sharouk out of the forum until further investigations can be carried out..
