GOLD CIRCUS

I am disgusted.

I have just been told by my trainer that Gold Circus has moved the Barbs Stakes and the Strelitzia Stakes which was scheduled to run on the 28 March.

The reasoning behind this I am told, is that certain trainers have withdrawn there nominations and the final field has now been reduced to 6 and 7 runners in both the races. This is bullsh*t.
WHY can't these races be run with only 6 or 7 runners. These are races where horses earn "black-type" and trainers prep their horses as per the scheduled dates that are given to the months in advance.

Why is Gold Circle treating KZN trainers like sh*t.
Would you have done the same if there were horses nominated by "big name trainers" ....off course your answer would be yes (just to passify the local trainers).

Has Gold Circle made this decision at the request of certain "big name trainers" so that some horses can be afforded extra recovery time (since they have run last week in PE etc).

Gold Circle was even considering combining the 2 races. After my trainer insisted that they should not combine a fillies race with a colts race, Gold Circle has agreed to re-schedule these races on the 11 April at Scottsville.

What are your thoughts in this matter?

They should have stood. 6 and 7 runners is plenty enough.

this is an absolute disgrace and gold circus should not be able to get away with this type of decision making which shows no respect for the owner trainers jockeys and breeders of the horses who stood their ground for a race which they have been prepared for..furthermore the next juvenile feature races are on the 27th of april which means the horses will have 2 weeks less to recover...however i am not surprized at this decision as gold circle do not have an official owner or punter representation on their board and these two groups are the two groups that put their hardearnedmoney in the industry ...i gave up my gold cirtcle membership last year for this very reason and next will be my colours when my 2 remaining horses are retired as the horseracing industry is being run into the ground with no respect for tradition and all the roleplayers involved...

Well said pirates. I totally agree. I know a small KZN trainer and a bunch of owners (small in the game) who were really looking forward to a program which looked well structured when it came to these 2yo races. The promising sort don't land on your door step every day. But guess what.... never hope.... never dream in this game because there are always a bunch of MULLETS, making a mess of it. Well done Gold Circus thanks again! Just keep souring owners to the game.

This is what happens when racing is run by accountants and not horsemen. Only a number cruncher can fail to see what an appalling decision this was.

Press release......
24 MARCH 2010

Owing to the disappointing number of acceptors for the Godolphin Barb Stakes (Gr 3) and the Strelitzia Stakes (Gr 3), that were due to be run at Clairwood on Sunday, 28 March 21010, a decision was taken by Gold Circle to re-schedule these races to the Sunday Tribune Raceday at Scottsville Racecourse on Sunday, 11 April 2010.

The two races attracted only four and five runners respectively and while Gold Circle understands and appreciates the concerns of the owners involved, it unfortunately does not make economic sense to stage any races with less than six runners. In addition, running Graded races with such poor support ultimately impacts negatively on the Stud Book.

By re-scheduling the races and re-opening nominations, it is hoped that these races will attract bigger entries and ultimately provide for better racing. Entries are now due on Friday, March 26 at 11 am and acceptances on Tuesday, April 6, by 11 am. Due to the re-scheduling it is important to note that there is no supplementary stage.

Both these races will be run in conjunction with the R200 000 Sunday Tribune Byerley Turk (Gr 3) and the R150 000 Sunday Tribune Umzimkulu Stakes (Gr 3), won by Polished Steel from Big City Life and On Her Toes respectively, last season.

the press release reads in part: "In addition, running Graded races with such poor support ultimately impacts negatively on the Stud Book. "

Eh?
Studbook?

Just goes to show how appallingly little the racing operator knows about what 'black type' is.

They should be ashamed.
Deeply.

WHY DONT GOLD CIRCLE JUST give one reason namely the economic one because your second one is a further insult to the connections of the horses concerned....i would like to remind them that firstly they set out the feature race schedule and secondly if their logic was applied many group races in europe and the states wouldnt be run due to lack of runners and one that springs immediatly to mind was the juddmonte international stakes group one at york which had only 4 runners sea the stars and the other 3 from the yard of aiden o brien...this race took place on the18th of august his next race the 5th of september the irish champion stakes and then 1 month later the arc de triomphe....thank the lord that the circus doesnt go beyond the borders of south africa..otherwise sea the stars would have probably had to miss one of these features...the mediocrity continues

The question that must be asked is 'where are the 2yo's'?
It seems that year after year trainers bring out their youngsters later and later.
It is almost April for pete's sake.
Are they not in training? Are they no good?
Or is this the Natal syndrome again - where trainers just don't seem to get their act together.
Having said that, in the Cape there aren't too many 2yo's racing either.
Take Snaith out of the equation, where are the 2yo's?
Who pays for their keep?
