Ladbrokes are waiting for a licence from the Western Cape Gambling Board and are hoping to open in time for the World Cup. Stan James have also begun the application process.
One wonders why these firms who have known for 5 years that we will stage the World Cup have left it so late.
The big shock is when they do open and realise what a small market they are trying to tap into. One only has to look at Interbet to see how badly the recession has hit the gaming market. They are trading the same volumes they did 5 years ago and that was when it was simply a bookmaker to bookmaker exchange.

To be fair to the newcomers, how were they to know no red carpet?
The Gambling Boards do everything in their power to make the application progress very long, very arduous and have the same attitude of the 1950's Post Office.
Instead of 'governing' the industry, they've turned it into a bureaucratic, slow-bled cash cow.
Please come, please open internet sites, please don't cut my limit after I fluke my fist little win.
I will be amazed if they stay.
