Doyen, PJ not going to Durban I believe. For wild cards I suggest you consider the juveniles - lots of races for them to be earning points

Sorry Doyen, regarding juveniles, just saw this beauty in the small print:
'To clarify confusion regarding 2 year old “wild card” entries, please note that they will earn a maximum of 2 points regardless of the status of the race i.e. Maiden or Graded Races'
This important disclosure is not being stated anywhere among the terms and conditions:
1. The competition includes ALL races run from 7 May
2010 to 31 July 2010 and includes numerous features
races that will be scored on the following points-allocation
basis:
Grade 1 Races: 1st place 15 points
2nd place 12 points
3rd place 10 points
Grade 2 Races: 1st place 10 points
2nd place 7 points
3rd place 5 points
Grade 3 and Listed Races: 1st place 5 points
All other Races: 1st place 2 points
Bonus Races: Golden Horse Casino Sprint – 1200m
(29 May 2010), Rising Sun Gold Challenge – 1600m
(12 June 2010) and the Vodacom Durban July –
2200m (31 July 2010) will carry double the points allocated
for Grade 1 Races including second and third
places.
So bottom line, not worth it selecting 2 yr olds as wild cards

duke, perhaps I am the one who am confused; in the terms and conditions; the first sentence states:
1. The competition includes ALL races run from 7 May
2010 to 31 July 2010 and includes numerous features
races that will be scored on the following points-allocation
basis:
Grade 1 Races: 1st place 15 points
2nd place 12 points
3rd place 10 points
Grade 2 Races: 1st place 10 points
2nd place 7 points
3rd place 5 points
Grade 3 and Listed Races: 1st place 5 points
All other Races: 1st place 2 points
Last time I checked, the Gold Medallion, Allan Robertson, Golden Horseshoe, Golden Slipper, Premier's Champion Stakesand the Thekwini Stakes are all GRADE 1 races (for juveneniles) which according to the rules should accumulate 15 points for the winner, 12 points fot the 2nd, and 10 points for 3rd. I don't see where it is mentioned in the terms and conditions that juvenile graded races are excluded - so that is why I thought it would be a good idea to include a juvenile colt and filly as my wild card entries.
But in a later press release, it is now stated that ''To clarify confusion regarding 2 year old “wild card” entries, please note that they will earn a maximum of 2 points regardless of the status of the race i.e. Maiden or Graded Races' ' - I still maintain that this is not mentioned anywhere in the terms and conditions and therefore any juvenile selected by anyone as part of their 'dream team' should earn points according to what is stated in the terms and conditions.
Or am I missing something?:S

Re: Re: KZN Charity Turf Challenge Official Entry Forms Now Online

Hi Dave – firstly thanks for supporting the CTC.
Regarding the “2yr old” issue, we elected to remove them from the guide list after year 1 as the pecking order was too difficult to predict. When we introduced the Wild Cards in the Cape Town edition, entrants included 2 year olds which was surprising given the fact that it was at the start of the juvenile season.
Our intention is to ensure that the competition is as fair as possible to ALL entrants (not only those in the know) and, therefore, we wanted to suppress the influence of the 2 year olds by limiting them to 2 points. This was applied when Maureen De Lago won the juvenile Listed Race on Met day and earned 2 points only, not 5 for Listed Races. Therefore, a precedent has been established.
We’ll issue a press release shortly with options for those that have selected 2 year olds already.
Regards
Peter

Re: Re: KZN Charity Turf Challenge Official Entry Forms Now Online
15 years 1 month agoRACING SOUTH AFRICA’S 2010 KZN CHARITY TURF CHALLENGE
LAST CHANCE TO PLAY THE KZN CHARITY TURF CHALLENGE!
DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 19H00 FOR ONCOURSE ENTRANTS ATTENDING THE ‘GR.2 DRILL HALL STAKES’
At Greyville Racecourse, those cash players can hand in entry forms at the following points:
· The Shop (ground floor)
· Gold Circle Members – Janice Corsar
· Helen Watson – Durban View Room and roving
Please note, horses competing in races before the revised deadline (Races 1 – 4) will NOT earn the 2 points available for non-Listed or Graded races.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Regarding the 2 year old entries, Racing South Africa’s intention has been to ensure that the competition was attractive to as wide an audience as possible and was as fair as possible to ALL entrants, (not only those very close to the action). Therefore, it was decided during the Cape Charity Turf Challenge (December 2009 – January 2010) when wild card entries were first introduced, to suppress the influence of the 2 year olds by limiting them to 2 points. This was applied when Maureen De Lago won the juvenile Listed Race on Met day and earned 2 points only, not the 5 which is offered for Listed Races. Therefore, a precedent has been established.
Despite statements made on TV (Inside Racing and Winning Ways) and in the printed and electronic media on this matter, Racing South Africa, acknowledges that the conditions of the competition are not clear on this point and apologizes for the confusion. Therefore, the following options are available to those entrants who have entered 2 year olds as wild cards:
· Leave entry with the knowledge that they will earn 2 points only
· Replace entry today by 19h00, Friday 7 May 2010
· Request refund of R50 entry fee for relevant entry by 19h00 today, Friday 7 May 2010
These decisions will need to be made by fax, email or telephone:
Telephone numbers:
Sheila de Villiers: 031 314 1926
Claudie Naidoo: 031 314 1799
Janice Corsar: 031 314 1994
Helen Watson: 031 314 1545
Fax numbers:
031 314 1402
031 314 1760
Thank you for your support.

Does someone 'close to the action' know if Warm White Night and Private Jet are going to be entered in the Golden Horse sprint (entries due today?)
