PHUMELELA GOLD ENTERPRISES MEDIA RELEASE
SUBJECT: bet365
Phumelela Gold Enterprises has concluded a web-streaming agreement with bet365, a major online bookmaker in the UK that will expand South African horseracing’s exposure in the UK.
The agreement, the first that PGE has concluded with a traditional UK bookmaker, will enable bet365 customers to view racing in this country after placing a bet.
Rian du Plessis, Group CEO of Phumelela Gaming and Leisure, said the agreement was another step towards establishing South African racing as a major international brand. “The additional exposure in the UK that this deal with yield for South African racing is significant and assists us in our mission to ensure the long-term sustainability of South African horseracing,” he added.

You can watch South African racing on Betfair for free, and in betting shops on turf tv, so how significant is this really???

Would be significant if Ladbrokes and Hills etc joined in aswell? but why cant Hollywood and Great odds or interbet be given the same opportunities?

Let me get this right, they place a bet with a UK bookmaker and get to view the race, I fail to see how this will benefit SA Racing??
What revenue will Phumelela be getting from this ... if any?

gregbucks you 100% correct.
When the decision was made to get in bed with a big UK bookmaker, did anyone on the board ask "How does this help us?" They hold the entire sport in trust for us, and the next big thing is to...give the feed to a bookie.
If another country gave their feed to one of our online bookmakers, at least the winners tax would add to the pot here.
I suppose I could be missing all the major advantages of the exposure to a bunch of bookie's punters. You would have thought they'd want to avoid a media release

The bottom line is they post threats on their publications not to use companies they are in partnership with?
How close are P and the RA? Also confused :S
I watch adds on Tellytrack and makes me more confused what they are trying to tell the customers/punters.
Not losing any sleep however

Betfair has - despite being treated like a leper - been paying the local operator a fee for years.
One must assume that 365 will be paying something along the same lines.

Oh well, at least if Betfair is busy, I can watch a race on my laptop via Bet365 from the park.
It might be strange that I have to have a pound bet in the UK to have access to a race, but we live in strange times and are part of a strange industry.
The irony is Bet365 will probably get the direct SA feed from the course while us shleppers are watching the Ngong canterpast.
