Deceptive Jockey Arrangements

Does this sort of thing go on ?, where trainers put stable/ regular jocks on horses they know won't win in a bid to get better odds on the stable companions that end up winning!!!! I for one, think so!

Never let Jockey bookings put me totally off, better keeping open minded to why which jock is on which mount..

Fallon gave up the ride on Presvis(one of the highest rated horses on the planet) because he thought the horse didn`t act for him...

There are many reasons why jockey arrangements can seem surprising. Fishing for a better price is just one of them. Of course it has happened but it isn't an everyday kind of thing. I was Basil Marcus' co agent years ago, it taught me (like hib) to keep an open mind about why who rides what.

Well if Striker doesn't go very close on Arctic Fleece you have to wonder what todays trip was about!

Rob, no Artic, you got Fleeced.

Rusty, Deception...good choice of word.

As for the definition of "keeping an open mind"....I think this is subjective.

Will the coupling to Fort Vogue run a place, should be a revelation, with Yeni riding for Bass

Yeah, like Fayd'herbe could ride at 52 kgs. No open mind needed there.

I did not in any way imply that BbH can ride at 52kg's. .. so not where this comment is intended to lead to.

I view is that PP, will be FbH's nemesis....he screwed up last years July, does he realy believe he can win it this year...methinks not.

Forget his win today, on PP...wow R95k in stake money, for a horse that has earning millions.....prep race perhaps.

Fort Vogue...unplaced today...more likely to be the betting coup

Not all jocks are the same and nor are horses the same either.....astute trainers are able to identify what style of riding is better suited to the racing style of the horse. No use in engaging a vigorous heavy handed jock on a fragile or skittish horse or putting up a weaker fledgling light weight on a headstrong "puller". The astute punter, race observer or jockey agent soon identifies the affinities of what type of jock certain horses would require. Good/great jockeys are able to vary style and ride a broader range of horses.Good /great horses are able run well with any jockey. Then there is also the behind the scenes activity where a trainer is obligated to give the ride to the jockey that actually does the work on the horse or those stable jockeys that get to choose their mounts in consultation with trainer. If you want to study and identify how the best trainers use jocks to bring out best in horses watch for Tony Cruz in Hong Kong. He has a stable jock and an apprentice, often find the apprentice upstaging the the stable jock.

Sure some trainers "under state" what they say just incase they get punters into trouble, and to save their face if all goes wrong?
