SA Bookmakers

One hour before local racing and no betting from our bookmakers who rely on the "price-fixing" site to tell them how to conduct their business and the Gambling board for protection,in spite of their lack of service to customers.
Now,if we had a betting exchange ,transacting in rands,we would have a hive of activity, and as the market settles, the bookmakers could join in,as and when they work things out.

ROB IF AN EXCHANGE was opened in this country do you think it would have sufficient support from layers and backers to make it a viable business?

Good point about the demand.

ok its Monday but checking Interbet a few reasonable prices, Pink West 16/10.........3/1 on offer, and Fast Growth 15/10....22/10 on offer.
in addition "no" requests from the punters, so maybe little demand before the off?

Pirates,I think that it would start a little slow but would gather momentum.Bookmakers would probably still be the main layers, but from a much larger pool.
In talking to the Betfair guys, they state that it is a relatively small percentage(by numbers) of transactors that lay.
The great thing would be the free market,so those who want to participate can,and those who want to sleep may do so.

I am one of the first to shout for early/ante post betting

Look at the July on Interbet, probably 50k traded, so lets say 25k hold from the bookies and 25k from the punters
Not sure how many bookies on Interbet? lets say 25...........holding a grand each?

Scotia, the horse I wanted to back at 10:50 had no market on interbet....every horse at SP.

Isofar as your other point about requests, who in their right mind would warn our lot ,in advance,of where the demand is FFS.

BTW the horse I am looking to back is officially 9/2 on the "price-fixing" site and I can't get better than 7/2 on interbet!

Credit to Bettingworld.......got 6/1 on their site....thanks!

I dont have an account with Interbet and dont go on there site. A general bookie wont really want to get to involved with big anti post bets on the July right now, Most of the bets that have been laid are prob by one or two bookies that have priced up early and most of the bets that have been taken are from punters that are in the know and seeking value. Bookmakers do most of there trade about a week before the July. Why would a Bookmaker want to lay 6/1 anti post on the fav, when people will be crying to get 7/2 on raceday??
