I was just wandering when this type of racing is going to to get off the ground - if it's going to get off the ground ( in NATAL I think )
surely we've exceded the " starting date " by now.

Is this another WHITE ELEPHANT ? Personally NOT my type of racing.

Like what punters want is so important...I loved Lance Benson's S Post piece on the Fairview jockey protest, by the way. I wish I'd written it myself.

hi DAVE,

Great to hear from you.
In short the racing is only in kzn natal with a handfull of horses racing once a month for 2010.

The potential to expand appears to be limited due to the low interest factor of south african horse folk to become personally involved as is seen in FRANCE,AMERICA ,AUSTRALIA and SWEDEN.The slow uptake is hampering the horsenumbers expanding to a level where the sport can sustain growth from the wagering dimension in SOUTH AFRICA.

I have personally resigned from the HARNESS RACING ASSOCIATION and CLASSIC HARNESS RACING,to push the efforts needed to get GREYHOUND RACING INTO SOUTH AFRICA .Dean LATIMER is still the chairman of the association and could possibly offer more insight into harness racings future from here on.
The sport of greyhound racing currently has many followers in south africa alongside an amateur following who own dogs numbering 2500 and we are lobbying hard to try and get this code legalized.

kind regards

clive

Do you have this video Bob?

Sensational Skipper retains TV Trophy title

Midway Skipper

MIDWAY SKIPPER (5-1) produced a sensational performance as she stunned favourite Taylors Riviera to successfully defend her Betfair TV Trophy title over 844m at Kinsley on Tuesday, joining Scurlogue Champ and Ericas Equity as dual winners of the prestigious event.

All looked set fair for Taylors Riviera to maintain her unbeaten marathon record when she collared long-time leader Tyrur Dream at the penultimate turn, but her many supporters had counted without the Henry Chalkley-trained veteran Midway Skipper.

Despite being a couple of lengths down off the final bend, Midway Skipper somehow produced a winning surge past the strong Taylors Riviera and got up for a three-quarters of a length victory in a new track record of 52.91sec, more than half a second inside Killishin Masai’s previous best for the relatively new trip.

Chalkley, himself a a veteran at 80-years-old, said afterwards: “She’s brilliant, whata lovely bitch. She was very clever at the first corner to get a run on the rails. We’ll keep her moving until she breaks in season and I’d like to give her a run at our local track Henlow so they can get a bit of enjoyment out of her.”

Locally-attached trainer Andy Clarke took star honours on the supporting card, landing a double with litter-sisters Milly Marina and Molly Marina, the last-named coming through late to win a scrappy final of the Timeform Radio Yorkshire Standard over 462m.

Favourites landed the other two supporting finals in the shape of Kim Billingham’s Cagey Pat (Betfair Casino Yorkshire Sprint) and Kevin Wright’s Hesley Dingo (Betting.Betfair Yorkshire Stayers), but there was a real turn-up in the Betfair Supports Anthony Nolan Trust Marathon when Paul Young’s 16-1 chance Benro Benny short-headed Greedy Bridie with odds-on Droopys Song only third.
