Scotia on the world cup so far
15 years 2 months ago
Good morning all and hope you are enjoying the World Cup to this stage, pity about SA getting beat 0-3 to Uruguay and only a dream result can keep them in the tournament, however we have had some shocking referees decisions, plus a few surprising results. With the drama with the French maybe they will just jump on the plane and go home? If they do what is the FIFA ruling, a 5-0 win to the host team?
some of the surprise results
England 1 USA 1
Spain 0 Switzerland 1
Germany 0 Serbia 1
England 0 Algeria 0
Italy 1 NZ 1
and maybe more to come?
All Whites gain a famous draw
My fancy Argentina 8/1 are now 9/2 are playing well and the odds have dropped plus Brazil 9/2 could make it an all SA final A = America (sad to say) but still plenty good soccer to watch my outsiders Portugal 33/1 are now 20/1.
In addition we had Royal Ascot last week and what a pleasure to watch, the clash with Goldikova and Paco Boy plus Canford Hills was special.
Derby winner Workforce could go for the King George on the 24th of July and the evens could be tempting and then the Arc on Oct 3rd. where he is 3/1 fav Fame and Glory 7/1, St Nicholas Abbey 12/1.
Other highlights over the next few weeks should be the Eclipse at Sandown on the 3rd, plus at Newmarket on the 7th the Falmouth Stakes and the July Cup on the 9th.
The good news is we have plenty good local racing from Natal.Dominic Zaki sends improving stayer Winning Leap through to Natal and at 10/1 could be value.
The handicapping of the Gold Challenge has been a hot topic on the site,Big City Life`s defence of the July could suffer? NHRA..worst handicapping ever?
When visiting the various clubs and pubs during my World Cup tour of Pretoria, I discovered a club in Atterbury full of slot machines and bingo links to other clubs. Many happy housewife's having a punt and a tipple but no bookmakers betting for sport and racing.
Also as predicted AP McCoy has shortened to fav after the poor show from Rooney at this stage. It would be great for the profile of the sport if a racing personality was to win the BBC award. Phil Taylor would also be a popular outsider.
Wimbledon also a well punted sport with Federer 15/10 and Nadal 5/2 and we could have a Williams final for the ladies 22/10 Serena and 4/1 Venus
don't you just love watching Maria?
International Rugby where the Southern Hemisphere should again be victorious with Australia, New Zealand and SA looking good for wins.
Have to get back to the World Cup

Probably a stupid question, but which team would go through in the unlikeky event of us beating France 3-0 and Uruguay beating Mexico 2-0 - both SA and Mexico would end up with 4 points and a the same goal difference?

World cup now gets to fascinating stage.....who would theoretically give a side rated 83 (probably nearer 50 on their present showing) a chance against a side rated in the first 10 (probably nearer 20) but I have no doubt we want to qualify more than them, and that could be the difference.
But being a cynic ,I wouldn't bet against a Mexico/Uruagay arranged draw(worth many millions to them) so all acedemic methinks.

I must admit cant remember many games being priced up 3/1 the pair to win and "8/10" the draw!

Article 39 from the Fifa world cup handbook would come into play where in essence teams that are level on points, goal difference, goals scored, head to head etc would be chosen by way of a random draw......

I can only guess at what the unfortunate Irish think of France's dismal performance on and off the pitch. Divine retribution, perhaps?
