Punters force Tote to
relaunch Super7 bet
PUNTER power has forced bosses at the Tote to relaunch their much-maligned Totesuper7 bet.
In a comprehensive consultation exercise, customers, regular pool players and bookmakers were asked how to improve the bet so from Monday the 'any 6' and 'any 5' consolation dividends will be replaced by a seven-race place dividend, meaning that players now have a chance to land a payout without backing a winner.
Crucially, the Totesuper7 will now be easier to win as it will operate over two meetings only, with the bet consisting of the last four races from one meeting and last three races from another.
Although this set up could lead to a number of bumpers being included in the race, the Tote have carried out a study of cards and are happy with this situation.
The minimum unit bet will remain at £2 with the stake split equally between the win and place fund, making it equivalent to a £1 each-way accumulator. Any rollovers will carry forward to the respective pool the following day. The Totesuper7 will continue to run from Sunday to Friday as normal.
David Craven, Totepool managing director, said: "We sought the many and varied views from our customers, bookmaker clients and regular pool players in what was an extensive project to develop this revised format.
"Customers wanted the daily bet to mirror the format of the Totescoop6, which offers the chance to win a fortune for a small stake alongside a consolation place fund that regularly produces four-figure dividends.
"We have listened closely to our customers and are confident these changes will prove to be popular with existing and new Totesuper7 players alike."
The Totesuper7 pool, which stands at £104,849, will continue to operate this week as normal.
The bet will then conclude in its present configuration on Friday and if the 'all 7 winners' pool remains not won, it will be carried forward to the first Totesuper7 pool in its new format the following Monday.
