To me the betting ring was more enjoyable than the actual racing

I too miss the bookies. I miss the analogue boards and the cardboard tickets written in a scribble.

Good article, remember we had gold and silver rings at the tracks.
Online and exchanges have made them disappear.

As an 18yo at Ascot in Bulawayo I always used to punt with one Rhodesian dollar with a bookie in the circle named a certain Mr Ray Muir. He always responded with “ thank you very much sir”. I felt so important.
