Logician suffered a shock defeat in the Group 3 Cumberland Lodge Stakes at York, finishing last of the four runners.

Last year's Leger hero, who was sent off 1-3, moved into contention on the turn for home and was switched from the rail to challenge Euchen Glen but was short of room.

Logician found nothing when asked to quicken and jockey Martin Harley soon eased down the son of Frankel, who had won his six previous starts and had made a successful comeback at Doncaster last month.

The Jim Goldie-trained Euchen Glen, an 18-1 shot, battled on to beat Desert Encounter by half a length to record his first win at Group level.
