Frankie Dettori was given a two-day riding ban by the stewards at Ascot on Friday, following an inquiry into his use of the whip on Stradivarius (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) in the Gold Cup.
The stewards were unable to interview Dettori on Thursday, so the hearing was carried forward 24 hours.
The officials ruled Dettori had used his whip above the permitted level in the closing stages of the race, one which prompted much discussion afterwards and left trainer John Gosden wondering out loud why Dettori had opted to take the three-time winner back from his early position.

The merit of Trueshan's performance today wasn't that he won off 120, which was a lenient enough mark for the best stayer in Europe and possibly the world, but that he won such a fiercely competitive handicap carrying 10-8, at least 35lbs of which would have been lead in the saddle cloth. Hopefully the ground won't be too firm at Goodwood so that he can take on Stradivarius and Kyprios (not to mention Mojo Star).

Stradivarius is going to stay in training for at least one more run after today's excellent effort.

Top stayers Stradivarius and Trueshan are due to clash at York on Friday after they were declared for the Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup (2.25) on day three of the Ebor meeting.

Trueshan twice emerged on top when the pair faced one another last season, but was one place behind his rival in the recent Goodwood Cup, which was won by new kid on the staying block Kyprios.

The mount of Andrea Atzeni, who has replaced Frankie Dettori on Bjorn Nielsen's popular star, Stradivarius is the marginal favourite from Trueshan, who might need softer ground to take his chance, although some rain may fall on Thursday night.
