Jack Dan in Kimberley
14 years 9 months ago
Could anyone explain to me what happened to Jack Dan R2 Kimberley yesterday? Personally the fact that the stable companion Little Master won (and a great ride by the Jockey) was another occurence of the fact that this is MANY times the case with these seriously short prices favorites does ask a few questions...is this just to be accepted by the betting public?
I did not have money on it since I am aware of these things happening too often and have that as a check in my selection criteria, but SURELY business is being lost by these kind of continuous activities happening...?? Some people would walk away and never bet again on these multiple occurences.
I would propose that short prices favorites in the market is not allowed to have stable companions entered to protect the betting public....but obviously this is not the solution

At the risk of stating the obvious; horses are NOT machines, and even in the absence of any 'funny business', many seemingly unbeatable 'certainties' have been beaten in the past (and sometimes by a lesser fancied stable mate) and it will happen again in the future - this is part and parcel of horse racing.

Appreciate that Frodo, but the fact is that it happens more often by the stable mates winning than any other and this is the ?...there might be a reason for this?...but it does pose questions...anyone able to think of a reason why it would happen more often to stable mates rather than other runners please let me know...

Banning stable companions of strongly fancied horses is definitely not the solution to the problem - if there even is a problem. This strikes me as one of those things which gets noticed when it happens, but the much more common occurence of the hot favourite winning and bigger priced stablemates getting beat passes completely unnoticed,. In other words, the exceptions stand out, while the norm barely reigsters.
Furthermore, I can only reiterate what Frodo wrote, that horses are not machines. Even less so are those horses who end up in Kimberley, which (let's be honest) is often a last resort for the unsound, the unhappy, and the simply untalented.

Loopy when i became interested in studying form a few years ago i noted that this happened very often in all centres...and it usually involved the stable companions fighting the race out...i have a theory on this..
I think its unlikely funny business because what about the other horses in the field...
Please dont laugh but i think that sometimes lessor fancied stable companions will simply not allow horses known to them to pass.

Magic on your comment "often a last resort for the unsound, the unhappy, and the simply untalented" Jack Dan ran exactly 2 weeks ago with the same Jockey onboard 2nd RR at Vaal Sand running a very decent sand horse Renegade to 1 lengh in an average MR90 in the field when backed from 50/1 into 9/1!
Certainly became "unsound, unhappy and untalented" very quickly running 13 days later so I will go with FC's "logic" instead lol..
I do keep record of how many times this happens and for that reason I have a rule in my selection process NOT to put any money on the short priced favorite when there is stable companions in the race...and if you look out for it you will be very amazed how often this happens so punters beware

You may be right, Loopy, but it doesn't take a horse 13 days to go haywire. Some of it have been known to do in less than the time that it takes to blink.

I guess we will only find out if that argument holds water when it runs again (probably within 14 days time) Magic, so I will be on the lookout!
Todays punters are way more educated than years ago so they do there homework....what I am saying with this statement is that these kind of things could lead to the industry losing out in the long run and pushing new punters away from the sport of kings.... and that is NOT something any of us want to see with the game we all love.

One of my clients rides for a top stable in kim and advised me to bet on short priced horses in kim especially when its part of the pa, only this trainer knows which horse is really trying, the only tips he gives his jocks are straight line pa
