how can anyone feel that fortune has been unfairly treated...dam how many chances must this guy be given...rules are rules
punishment is meant to teach someone a lesson and hopefully they wont do it again...it obviously has not worked with fortune...surely a harsher penalty was in order
the shame about this episode is that it will come up again in a few months...and there will be those missing the point and defending him again

Boet, I think you may be missing the point too, I'm not defending Fortune, I'm critisizing the NHA and their different treatment of different jocks for the exact same offence. I'm very happy that fortune got punished and will continue to support the punishment of jocks that make mistakes, but they should all be punished on the same scale.....Not oblong as is the case at the moment.

Some time back Andrew won on a horse Humboldt from a wide draw at Clairwood and was given a 2k fine for patting the horse just short of the post and winning by 3/4length on the same day in an earlier race another senior jock was called in for excessive use and because the said horse was favourite and won a short head he was given a verbal warning???? 2k for patting a horse and a verbal for excessive use.......Go figure

Fortune and Strydom can cause as much havoc as they want......
no other jockeys have the balance they have...
naturals.....one motion with the horse....scientifically these two are the perfect riders...
the others have to "WORK" at it...much like Tennis...6-8% are natural backhanders....feet can be in any position..and a natural backhander plays the perfect backhand..the others have to work at it...
so Andrew Fortune... drink as much as you want,,,snort all you can....cause as much havoc as you like.....reality...fortune and strydom will be written in the history books....best jockeys we had in this eara....
as for the authorities....shame...your names will never be remembered....maybe on a wall of shame...
why...you are blind to the real scheming and pulling up of horse going on every day...
the way you run the industry....obvious you have hidden agenda's....always trying to keep in the good books with the right people...
what you dont realise...these "right people" see you as their puppets...
start looking at the starting stalls....fav that jump badly...watch the jockeys on the fav....arms are moving like a washing machine...and arse hitting the saddle...stopping the horses on sprints to get into full stride..get some of the MAURITIAN STIPES to come teach you guys...most of our jockeys will be banned in a month.. non grata....send them to Robin Island....

I found this article on the ROUX THREAD. Robbie Hill also got 1 x month for putting his hands down, so apart from the 30G fine, to me the penalty dished out to the candy man was not too different from Robbie Hill's.
Inquiry - jockey Robbie Hill
The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held on
Thursday 10 December 2009, Jockey Robbie Hill was charged with a
contravention of Rule 62.2.3, in that whilst riding FIRST WALTZ, in Race 9
at the Vaal Racecourse on Tuesday 24 November 2009, he failed to ride this
horse out by putting his hands down approximately eight strides before the
finish line, thereby costing him fourth place.
Mr Hill pleaded guilty to the charge.
The Inquiry Board found Mr Hill guilty and imposed a suspension of riding in
race meetings for a period of one month.
Jockey Hill has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.

Elvis, all due respect, a R30,000 fine is as big a fine as I have heard of for a jockey, apart from a warning off, so to me there IS a HUGE difference. Also Hill put his hands down a long (ish) way from home, fortune dropped right at the post. (Once again I don't condone what he did....he was WRONG)
Hill should at least have received some kind of fiscal penalty.

makes no sense in fining the jockeys...
next time I am on the fav...we have to lay it to pay the fine....??????
rather suspend them....yellow card.....1 month...
2 x yellow cards...1 year suspension.....
3 x yellow cards....non grata...move them to Robin Island

Andrew Fortune is a great jockey with a past. No matter what he does now he is an easy target for the useless stipes who see him as someone they can make their name with. There isn't a jockey in the world who will never nake a mistake but rest assured that when it is Fortune making the mistake there WILL be a stipe only too happy to go for him. Lucklily Fortune is a bigger MAN than them and he will persevere and succeed

here we go again...fortune up for another suspension for the same offence...but iam sure there will be those that defend him for being unfairly treated...hope he is found not guilty...but if he is found guilty they must throw the book at him...
