A poster on Racingweb took a R200 atc on the books AND on the tote:profit was: Tote R528 & Books R2433........ on the strength of that, anybody betting on the tote is crazy and those type of returns warrant an investigation by the Gambling board (as it is as close to theft as it gets).
Interesting that the NHA have communicated that they regulate racing, and not the betting thereon........perhaps when they have got over their elections, and feathered their nests, they will read their own rules and find the one about manipulation of Tote favourites(Rule 72.1.29)....if thats not betting, what is?

LOL
A few little pointers for mr Spielberg
If you walk into a tote with R10 and wager it on the 1st race in the win/place/swinger pool you "lose" 25%
If you win in that race and play the WHOLE ammount in the 2nd race you "lose" 25%
IN fact as long as you wager into the tote in individual pools you subject your funds to a pool where at least 25% is going to be taken off the top.
So your analysis holds zero water. You pretty much stating the obvious.
Then you choose to show the opening betting (typical tipster) 5/1 shown in the 1st race BUT was it ever really availbale to the genral public?
I too dont agree with the AT bet but i would say at least try to attack it with the correct ammo.

very interesting, the bookie O/betting nailed the tote odds every time. the % takeout by the tote on EVERY race is the REAL PROBLEM,I think.... makes you think twice about this bet.

It's pointless trying to attack this bet. Tote betting is a tax to fund racing, that's it's job and that is what it does.
We as an industry, take money from the stupid and give it to the people who want to own horses as a sport.
There is also no point in criticising the takeout, it's half tax and half (stakes & maintenance/admin).
It's equally amazing that anyone can go and buy or lease themselves a horse.... and just have stakes available there for them to win.
Everything about our sport is amazing...you just have to love it.

I guess the subject has been exhausted
If you are a "punter" you have to go with the bookies
If you want better stakes you should punt with the tote at a less return
I have heard that the Operators and the Bookies are talking at present re: this concern and the Open bet
Maybe the outcome will be more sponsored races from the bookies?
Not sure, but hope its a step in the right direction for the game (tu)

I'm new to the game and I've learn't quickly to be very sceptical about the tote. I watched with amazement the other day at my computer screen. I place betted a horse and the odds on my the screen displayed 3 comma something. Not bad I thought so I took a punt. The bet was taken by their website. The odds page then displayed that the race was closed for betting and the place odds were still over 3. I was happy with the odds I got. The screen then updated again during the race and my odds had more than halved to 1.5! Dodgey.... I've withdrawn all my tote money and I will be opening a betfair or bookies account soon. Any suggestions on who consistantly offers the best odds?

unlucky dube... reigister with world sports betting or victor chandler... both give good odds, both are user-friendly, both allow multiple bets, swingers, exacta's, exotics etc

Thanks for the advice guys. What's your opinion on betfair Gregbucks & wonbyamile? I've often looked at them and thought that their prices were good, and plus I'd also have the option to lay bets.
