IMO he is past it and thus making a shrewd career move. He has slowed down by about a yard or two since ligament damage to his ankle back in March and imo will never again be a force. Thus moving on and getting a new contract imo is a shrewd move. I just feel sorry for the team who will have to pay what is likely to now be a ridiculous salary. That's my pennysworth and most of his fans will be up in arms at this post. However sport is littered with people who were never the same after an injury with knees and ankles being particularly important in football and rugby. A case in point would be Jaco van der Westhuizen - most people would say Jaco who? He is the Bulls utility back who largely goes unnoticed through most games. However he made his Bok debut at the age of 22 when viewed as a prodigous talent. Shortly thereafter he attained a knee injury. This cost him his biggest asset, lateral movemen, and he has never fulfilled half the talent he had. I also, as an avid QPR fan, had to suffer watching the once lethal Mark Hateley floundering around the pitch after his knees had gone in the 90s - a grandmother would have been more effective.

Andre Pretorius is another prime example. Not only is he too prone to injury but he has never lived up to the extreme talents he showed wehn playing for RAU and the Lions under-21 team!

Man U should say good riddance of Rooney!!!

Rooney showed the world that he has no loyalty toward his wife by banging prostitutes and now he has shown no loyalty toward his club. He will be washed up as a player by the time he is 30. Nice to earn 250k a week but 50% goes to the taxman and another 20% to his agents.

I think that proves my point ... all he wanted was a new contract whoever would give it to him.
