Everybody sees and hears what they bring to these interviews. People look for somebody else to substantiate their own viewpoints. I will say one thing about South African racing: you people do not have enough participants, enough horses, enough facilities and enough punters to be so factionalized. You need to find a way to all join forces. You've got a great product. Pity those in charge don't have enough faith in it to promote it better internationally. South African racing is a natural for American punters because of the time of day the races are scheduled, the fact that everything is uttered and written in English, the terrific international reputation of your jockeys and your interesting style of presentation by the human participants.

Don,

A TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMME will have a PROJECT PLAN.
The Project Plan will incorporate :-

Integration management - integrate the various islands in racing
Scope management - defining the end product with inclusions and exclusions
Time Management - by when
Cost management - money
Quality Management - lol
Human Resource management - (egos)
Communication management - transparency to owners, trainers, punters, public
Risk Management Qualitative and quantitative (tote also)
Procurement management - need technology - vendor - outsourcing

Once you have a plan - buy in from each island in racing can start.
Right now there is NO PLAN - hence the constant debates - arguments - debates - forced meetings
Right now the RA is doing fire fighting - running around trying to contain the ???? Much like the student uprising in the UK

Once there is a plan - published on the RA website for all to participate/criticize/comment/agree - (during Scope management) the focus is moved to the plan - every one is focussed on the same thing - THE PLAN

RIGHT NOW - every one is focused on different issues/challenges
with a PLAN - the FOCUS is on the same thing - THE PLAN

Time to initiate a TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMME (appoint a Programme manager ) - 12 month contract at a cost of around 800 to 1000 GBP per day.
(pay peanuts - get monkeys)

Andre, right now there is no plan to even embark on having a plan.....! each faction is still pulling in their own direction with different goals. It needs a further collapse before a unified goal can be agreed - borne out of desperation whereby some of the weaker bodies give over their assets, then embark on change management. The take-over body will call the shots and mould the plan according to their strategy. This body is likely to be Phumelela.

Most Transformation projects fail because of the "borne out of desperation approach" : -

Phumelela cannot initiate the transformation programme - they cannot design the exam and write it.....

Currently the various Racing bodies all have different TOM's (Target Operating Models).
They should have as each have to focus on their strategy and organic growth of their respective current customer base.
If any of the current bodies initiate the TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMME, the programme will be infested with hidden objectives that will benefit the initiating body.

On the side we have money, old money and new money...
Both have ego's that will be offended...

Hence we find that all TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMMES are like war battles where we find the following : -
1. Hero's - normally the unknown that rise above the situation
2. Wounded - the egos' get wounded and these become bitter people - they were the Hero's
3. Dead - some die(leave the industry) during the TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMME

Hence TIMING is the important ingredient in a TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMME

Plain English :
1a.Most of the Old Money will be (WOUNDED)offended - as new HERO's (unknown smaller owners with less money) will rise up during the TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMME and become bitter...
1b.Most of the Old TIMERS be (WOUNDED)offended - as new HERO's (unknown YOUNGER) will rise up during the TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMME and become bitter against the new generation...

2. Most if not all of the NEW Money will leave the industry

3. We will be left with the majority small owners, who will become the hero's

Questions related to the TIMING ingredient :-
Can the Industry afford the loss now
Is it going to happen in any case
Must we bite the bullet now?

If the RA would initiate the PROGRAMME, we will see the most wounded and dead soldiers from their ranks?

and yes, even Shackleton plied his men with copious amounts of whiskey...perhaps it needs whiskey. Lots of it.

perhaps GC can get the ball rolling and start the change programme....instead of partially amalgamating with Phum...or is it too late for that?

RA should initiate the TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMME

GC and Phum have different objectives - shareholders (to generate dividends and grow the money (customer)base))
They are vehicles used by the RA in the racing Industry and should have no say in what races, where, when will be run...
Sure they can lobby for more races to increase the turnover.

The RA should be directing the industry.

Both GC and PHUM should report and pay the money over to the FSB, while the FSB will then fund the RA.

Right now the RA cannot prescribe to GC or PHUM.

If we follow the FSB route, the RA will have full authority and can the initiate a TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMME.

Until this change is made, we will be chasing around in circles.
