It was a good win by Ebony Flyer, but I think that everyone is getting carried away at the monent....Igugu is a good filly too but on current form Hollywood Boulevard is just as good as Ebony Flyer imo...I wonder if they will ever meet...that will be a great dual...

A potential great match race, however fancy the 3 to run
Ebony Flyer, Hollywood and Igugu
I would be on Ebony Flyer but that would capture the racing public for sure.

The problem with Holly is whether she'll train on with Charlie Laird ... But other 2 look likely to go from strength to strength with Igugu likely to be better over longer it seems.

I we're talking 3 yr old fillies, I think that Happy Archer could give these something to think about - and if we are including older fillies/mares, I would stick with Mother Russia at WFA over 1600-1800 and with Gibraltar Blue over 1200-1400. That being said, Ebony Flyer is clearly classy - just not so sure that she is 'the greatest filly in the country at the moment'

The Jockey Club handicapper says Ebony Flyer is 4 pounds better than Igugu or Hollywoodboulevard.
On 3 of the last 4 weekend my horses have won important races and in 2 of them, the horses received full credit.
Gaining full credit for a Graded win is more difficult than winning a Grade 1 race.
Gypsy's Warning and Pluck won the Grade 1 Matriarch and Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf by overcoming trouble and drubbing their rivals, thereby gaining full credit. I have raced 23 individual Grade 1 winners that have won about 34 Grade 1 races.
The number of them that won AND got full credit wouldn't fill a mitten.
So when I read the non-sense about the win of Ebony Flyer after the race, I am quite used to.
All I can say is one thing: thank goodness there is that elegant strip of wire that serves to separate winners from losers, even though it doesn't drown out all of the noise afterwards.

met weights
3yo's 52kg
4yo's 57.5kg
older 58kg
fillies and mares granted 2.5kg subject to a minimum of 52kg's.
Nortern hemisphere 4yo's granted 1kg allowance .
horses having won a group 1 in accordance with the international cataloging standards blue book from 1august 2008 will receive a 2kg penalty .Penalties are not cumulative .
3yo's will receive a 1kg penalty for a group 1 win in their age group .
Question, does Mother russia's group 1 horse chetsnut win fall in the blue book standards ?
imo these conditions wont suit the 3yo's unless they very highly rated . 4yo's are also badly treated if low in the ratings .
So it looks like Pocket power will be tossed in again .
I wouldn't run a 3yo in this race unless its a rocket .

Yes, the Horse Chestnut is a Blue Book Gr1.
The South Africa pages are HERE and the whole book is available HERE.

So if I understand the conditions correctly:
Pocket Power (if he runs?) will carrry 60 if he wins the Queens Plate and 58 if he does not
Mother Russia will carry 59.5 (60+2-2,5)
Ebony Flyer will carry 52
I agree it is not a race for 3 yr olds and I don't think Ebony Flyer will run, but what about Perana - he set a suicidal pace in the Summer Cup, will be carrying 52 kg's if he runs (and it is 2 months after the Summer Cup), so could be a factor?
