R100. Those 1.1 and 1.2 bets would have paid 1.0.

BALLINROBE DIVIDENDS
Above are the dividends for yesterday racing at Ballinrobe, Ireland. As you can see their fancied runners pays almost similar to our dividends. So out tote is not the only one under scrutiny. Its a worldwide trend somehow Hong Kong, Singapore, USA and France have been able to shrug off were Bookmaking is illegal (Bookmaking in France as been legalized just recently so just using it has an example).
If Person A instead of going to the bookmaker and takes a bet (Fixed Win or Fixed Place) on Horse A, Person B on Horse B, Person C on Horse C, etc, the Tote Pool will get bigger and better so the Pools wont become diluted as it is and better for Payouts for all.
Example
Person A - R 3 000 Wins on Horse A
Person B - R 3 000 Wins on Horse B
Person C - R 4 000 Wins on Horse C
Person D - R 2 000 Wins on Horse D
Nett Pool = R12 000 so if Horse A wins the Payout will be R 4
But if Punter D takes his R 2 000 out and takes his bet with the bookmaker the,
Nett Pool becomes R10 000 and the Payout will be R 3.33
So in fact because we looking for Value with the Bookmaker we make our Tote Pools suffer which im guilty off !!!!!!!!!!

When something is over bet, and pays lousy dividends, it stands to reason that something else in the race is under bet and pays well. Because no one knows what the dividends shall be until the close of the race there is either disappointment, satisfaction or greater pleasure, when the dividends are known. This is measured against our expectations (normally related to our ‘rule of thumb’ standard or hope).
Knowing this to be so, the question is whether we can identify ‘probable’ poor dividends prior to betting and avoid disappointment, and similarly identify those that may pay better.
Previous tote research, (places vs swingers, ATC vs tote doubles and P3’s) has shown that patterns exist. This is roughly, and ‘simply’ summarised, with odds.
Up to 3/1……….-30
3/1 – 5/1………..-10
5/1 – 7/1………….0
7/1 – 10/1………+10
10/1 – 14/1……..+20
14/1 – 20/1……..+30
Over 20/1……..+10
You are going to see your backside if you continue playing favourites for a place on the tote (unless your strike rate is incredibly high)!
Did you know that all dividends are rounded down to the nearest 10c…means nothing with a P6, yet a R1.28 ‘calculated’ return is rounded down to R1.20…big percentage out of your return and even bigger percentage out of your profits, (this applies on all totes as far as I am aware).
An obvious alternative, and comparison, is with the bookmakers odds…however you still have to measure it to manage it. Accuracy, and speaking from FACT costs…400 initial samples followed by a further 400 for each of the above categories.
Would be a great exercise for ABC, the voice of the South African punter.
Hibs, would you be able to co-ordinate such an exercise..establish the parameters with a view to finding some meaning and benefit to punters.
I would like to contribute in a small way, and have some data that may be of use, but my programme for the rest year is already full (even have some of last years exercises still to complete).
