1st test done and dusted ... now for the 2nd.

Wasn't Thursday 10/11/11 a strange, strange day! Good thing I wasn't betting on the cricket, or I would have been in hospital with several heart attacks before the day was over. It was a "Huh?!! Whaaaat!" experience like I've never had in any cricket match I ever watched, and I've watched a few.
I remember oh so well, getting up very early to watch the Aus leg of the two 3-test series SA played against Aus in late 2008 and early 2009 ... couldn't stay in bed, impossible. And how in both series the matches, all six of them, swung first one way, then the other, then back again.
This latest test between the two great southern cricketing nations ... the best of enemies ... was in the same tradition, only more so. Many writers and commentators have said, "What a pity they are only playing two tests!" ... one can only agree. What a pity!
One thing that delighted was to see Graham Smith come back to form. It's been a while, Biff, but I'm glad you're back in the winner's box where you belong. As we say in racing, you can lose form but class remains. I remember well some of his great knocks, like Edgebaston in 2008 (South Africa got their first series win in England since 1965), when he did more than his share in chasing down 281 to win the 3rd Test, the highest ever successful pursuit at this ground. Smith scored 154*.
Anyway, imho SA are great chasers ... some horses need something to run at ... and then you'll see them at their best. When they get out front they get distracted and start to loaf, then wickets fall and suddenly it's too late to catch up. Chasing is their game, for sure ... in the last 3 years Egebaston, Perth ... and now Newlands 09-11/11/11.
Who would have predicted the events of Thursday 10th? Can't wait for Thursday 17th. Wonder what will happen then? With these two teams, you just never can tell.

Never a truer word, Magic! The Aus-SA double-header in 2008-9 converted me to test cricket and this latest match has confirmed it (for me, anyway ... maybe not for others).

However, at other times it is as exhilarating as watching paint grow or grass dry, or something. Not this time, though. That was a match for the ages.

Kallis batting quicker here than the T20's. Lovely to see what a class player can do when coming in under pressure. (tu)

not forgetting the 10 minutes after having sex when your partner needs to be held, now thats boring especially when you have only minutes left before the 2nd half of a football match kicks off.

Mike Haysman must rank as one of the most irritating commentators of cricket that I have ever had the mis privailedge
of listening to. Whenever he comes on i reach for the mute button as he just loves the sound of his own voice. The info that he gives is obvious and he just blabbers on and on and on repeating things over and over just for the sake of talking. Wessels although extremly dour feeds us with valuable info and Jackman is spot on as he is aware of whats going on at all times.
