Squeaky Butler was a legend when he was riding. Whenever he rode a winner just about everyone on the course would rush to the winner's box like Elvis Presley had come back to life and was about to give a concert.
< The last I heard Butler had a job in the harbour in PE, but that may be out of date.
Speaking of PE and giving my age away completely, whatever became of the likes of Dennis Reed (the tallest jockey I've ever seen), Gerald Levy (I think he died but I'm not sure), James Robertson, the unfortunate Richard Smythe (hugely talented but went downhill after a car crash, I think), Craig Hart (who promised to be a champion but vanished rather quuickly) and the de Coriolis brothers.

I think he's a jockey's agent. I see him at Greyville often. I don't think he's completely ruled out the possibility of training, one day.

Pirates, I see squeeky quite often at his brother's pub in PE called "Die Opstal" and yes, he's still quite a character

the racing industry is extremely guilty of not remembering or honouring trainers or jockeys of the past who made such great contributions ...bar the henneman memorial raceday they fall very short in this regard....i dont follow pe racing closely but surely they shd be having a raceday every year to honour stanley greef?

Just like they have a michael roberts raceday in dbn, there should be a bartie leisher day in jhb, after all he did pave the way for our boys to compete in the east, and from what I've heard he tryely was a punters friend
