Musir mauls rivals in Meydan feature
BY JASON FORD 6:37PM 12 JAN 2012
Report: UAE, Thursday
Al Maktoum Challenge R1 Sponsored By Etisalat (Group 3) 1m, 3yo+, AW
MIKE DE KOCK is always a trainer to fear in the big races and Musir gave him further reason to celebrate after he ran out an ultra-impressive winnerof Thursday evening's feature race.
The winner, ridden by Christophe Soumillon - who was in the saddle when Mahbooba won last week's Al Rashidiya Trial - was chased home by new stablemate Master Of Hounds, formerly trained by Aidan O'Brien.
De Kock clearly has plenty of ammunition for the big races at the Carnival and Musir, winner of the UAE 2,000 Guineas and Derby in 2010, will now switch to turf.
De Kock said: "Obviously we are delighted with that and Musir is a much stronger horse than he was in his Classic year and again from last year. I do still feel that turf is his best surface and the Dubai Duty Free is his main target.
"We will look at the Zabeel Mile perhaps and/or the Jebel Hatta on Super Saturday."

Of the runner-up, he added: "Master of Hounds had a bad draw over an inadequate trip and has really run well also to snatch second.
"He will probably run in the next two rounds of the Maktoum Challenge with the World Cup itself as his target. We have Bold Silvano as well to run in one or other Maktoum Challenge races so we will play it by ear."
Soumillon added: "I am so pleased to win here again on this horse who really isone of my favourites as he gave me my first big winners here in Dubai."
Mendip, sent off the 7-4 favourite under Frankie Dettori, never posed a serious threat and kept on take fourth behind stablemate Secrecy.
Of the British raiders, the Ed Vaughan-trained Dance And Dance took sixth while Fanunalter, representing Marco Botti, finished a disappointing 10th.

It was a lovely race all round. Musir won in a canter, but the 2nd horse sure caught the eye and you could tell in his interview that MDK was well pleased with him.

It sounded like MDK is going to keep Musir to the 1600m this season and Master of Hounds is going to be his World Cup horse....just my opinion of course
