I know. World Cup night is on a different planet to the rest of the Dubai season.

True, but look at Lizard's Desire and his amazing effort in the World Cup ... that's got to be a training feat to savour. Mike de Kock can turn geese into swans and spin straw into gold imho. Not every time, no, but often enough to make every tipster wary of even his most unlikely contestants!

I didn't asy that SA horses can't be competitive on World Cup night, or even in the World Cup itself, but a lot of the other races in Dubai are less than world class. Musir could not have won more easily, and the pundits were saying that it was the strongest Maktoum Challenge Round 1 that they could remember, and on top of that MDK is still of the opinion that he is better on grass, There's a lot to look forward to, but races like the World Cup and Duty Free are much tougher. As they deserve to be, with those stakes,

LOL! Yes it did ... and one could see that Christophe Soumillon (who must have ridden plenty of top horses) was seriously chuffed with the run. He couldn't stop patting and stroking the horse. I bet you he has one of the big WC Night races in his sights now. It was even easier than Bold Silvano's wins last year, and the time of 1.35.85 was close to the record.

Having said that, Master of Hounds put in (as several have said) an amazingly promising run ... in fact he finished faster than Musir. And we have yet to see Bold Silvano out on the track.

I think we'll all have goosebumps a few more times before the Carnival is over.

Just been watching a replay of that Musir race ... Master of Hounds was lying 11th of 12 at the 400 m and was 2nd by the time they hit the line ... that after being drawn 12/12. Over a distance short of his best. The more I look the more impressed I am.

Terry Spargo opines (which we didn't hear on 232): "De Kock quinella - sounds a bit familiar, doesn't it?" You said it Terry, you said it.

Speaking of Terry Spargo, I'm pretty sure that yesterday I heard him say, "they're off in the Jebel Ali Stakes of 2020...">:D<
