England, maybe, or Qatar, where my mate Ryan Skelton does the handicapping and loves not having his hands tried by all these silly limits and plate race rules and whatever other nonsense has bastardised the system in SA over the years. I suspect that in the UK the handicapper/s also have pretty much carte blanche to rate horses as they see fit. Of course there will always be people who are unhappy with their horses' ratings, but the system works because the people who are tasked with making it work are allowed to get on with it as they see fit.

One horse that I think would of had a good future had the handicappers not penalised him on his runs to PJ and 4th in the July yo Bold Silvano was Service ace.. This was a onw timer with a rating of like 104?stand to be corrected though

Rob,the majority of these new younger horses become the moderate ones.
Its like a lucky dip when you buy a juvenile.
Its the same in the UK,some meetings are poor and the horses are slow
but they tend to find their level. What would you do Rob with the slow ones ?
I have sent a couple to a riding school for local kids, trouble is there are too many
horse to home.

Moderate horses are the backbone of racing anywhere and need the opportunities to earn. There are more horses rated 60 something than there are horses rated 100 plus, so it stands to reason that low level racing forms the bulk of any racing programme. It does not stop the good horses from rising to the top, as long as the programme is reasonably balanced, and on the whole I think ours in SA is balanced enough. You can't please all the people all the time, but having a bunch of merit rated 60 something handicaps has done absolutely nothing to stop Graded race horses from doing their stuff.

Dave the problem is then we would have to send 80% of our horses from GAUTENG RACING to riding schools... Hmmmm, maybe that won't be such a problem after all... :D

MAGIC, we seem to have these lower graded races week in, week out up here (Gauteng)??... Have you noticed the lack of stayers races in Gauteng, I feel for the owners that have stayers, Shrek you one that comes to mind.
