Thats why I find the tellytrack on course ''tipsters'' laughable when they quote the value on the tote with a few minutes to race time...(:P)

I have learnt my lesson, no more atc or win bets with tab. Tellytrack presenters are idiots with one or two exceptions and will read anything without questioning the payout. They might aswell get a couple of good loking people to present if they have no interest in the result. Jimmy rambles on and on and on about the sire and dam and 19 generations berfore, if you want this info it is on the net or in the book useless info to fill the slot

The Tellytrack presenter refers to the fixed odds as well as the Tote price from the monitor . If he fancies an outsider that is 4/1 and currently paying R9.10 0n the Tote for a win and R4.00 a place he highlights the value. Thereafter the horse will shorten on the tote because, believe it or not, the many " smaller punters" at the Tote follow their advice. If you disagree , then monitor it in the future.
I visited over 30 outlets in the Western Cape and the punters want more from on-course presenter and less from in- studio Presenter. They believe that they want info from as close to the action as possible.

I believe there could be something going on -many years ago some one I know worked at the tote machine on the course this one machine didn't switch of when the race started and you could still take bets up to after the race so If this is still happening then it is easy money for some one (he reported it at the time but some one did say that he normally worked on that machine and he shouldn't have reported it)
This wont sup-rice me if it still on going

It amazes me that Saftote have made such feeble attempts to ease the concerns of these issues:
only 3 reasons can exist..........1)they don't give a shyte 2) they don't actually know ...or...3)they have a problem they dare not expose

We have never been told the truth of the special features of machines in the hands of agents............there is a time lag to rectify mistakes but this must obviously be open to abuse(I have seen it in operation) (I was in a racing pub.......we backed a horse that was a handicap certainty ,but had a history of problems at the stalls so we backed it on the Tote.It stood in the stalls at the off,and the bet was cancelled during the race..........fact.I was there!)
Also,we saw how simple the programme was that the hacker /employee used to rob the tote in the states............his greed at getting Millions in a day was all that stopped him...........a consistent skim everyday would probably still be going on ,but for that.

Why is it so secret????

Yes Rob, there is a function to cancell bets while the race is being run, this was done to give an operator a chance to cancel a bet should they had made a huge mistake ie keyed in a R10 000 bet instead of R1000....and yes this can be abused as punters siding with machine operators as they can cancel bet in running and hence manipulate tote payouts

I sent an email to James Goodman a few weeks back highlighting the changing of a Fav on the Tote, after the Race, which cost me and I amsure plenty of other punters the Pick 6 that day, he did not even answer my email.

I would have thought that he could have got the point across on Winning Ways, but as I said, he just ignored the email, so who are we supposed to complain too, Phumelela treat us as if it our first day at the Races and give nothing in the way of a satisfactory answer, in fact their response is usually that it is Overseas punters, who must all be geniuses8-)

Perhaps we should all start using HELLO PETER for every niggle. They follow up with the company to get a response. I am sure they would be inundated with complaints. www.hellopeter.com

In gold circus country all tote bets over R100 needs to be confirmed by means of a confirmation button on the keypad ,in order to cancel a ticket once the race has started all the clerk has to so is contact the operation centre @ greyville and give the ticket number and the bet is cancelled ,the only reason the clerk has to give is "wrong bet" or "wrong amount" ,its open to manipulation

Another trick i have seen tote agents use to boost turnover is the following scenario

When a horse is scratched it takes a few minutes to register on the tote system, the agent takes massive win bets on the scratched horse which shows as a bet

Once the race has run and the all clear is given the scratched ticket is processed as a payout and not cancellation so the agent scores

In my school n student days i worked many years at tote outlets,i have seen this happen 1st hand

I suggested to Winning Ways a few weeks ago that they get Graeme Hawkins to respond to controversial E-mails,as, both being trainers, their responses are understandably guarded and therefore a waste of time............no response!
There are also lot of the questions ,about various issues, especially betting issues and products, that they are clueless about, but instead of finding out the facts, they guess, mostly wrongly, which is bad...........I know of many questions ,that hopefully the writer double checked what he was told, because it was hogwash.
That show has become like the Mutt and Jeff show IMO..........................entertaining but useless!

I would love to see Hawkins host a FAQ programme, responding to punters /stakeholders questions...............he has balls and does not duck the issues and does not get emotional...........very good in that role.
