March is probably the deadest month for racing in Cape Town. I remember years ago they dropped a few midweek meetings at Milnerton (that's how long ago it was) in March. It seems a bid odd to me that they would schedule two meetings a week in March and not always in those months (winter and spring) when Cape fields are usually bigger.
If two meetings a week all year round in the Cape were still the norm it would be different, but there are "gaps" in the WC schedule coming up over the next several months and in my ignorance I'd have thought March would be the best time to do it, if we really have to do it. I'd obviously be delighted to see Cape Town going back to a full two meetings a week schedule all year round as was the case until very recently, but if the 2011 pattern of dropped meetings is to be continued why drop them in the more "popular" months?
And I still would love to know why the draw thing was changed, and by whom.

carl is right dville is a shithole and its fine for the big yards to run their horses because they got 300 each and if they get smashed well another lot come in..the smaller trainer doesnt have that luxury so they prefer to not take those chances...the closure of racetracks makes this scenario happen and its soon coming to a place close to few on this forum...

Durbanville has undulations in the track, but what is wrong with it bar that?
Taban,Marie Galante and Empress Club ran there when Durbanville still had the hedge as the inside rail. The fact that there is no straight course is not a bad thing,it allows different types of horse(Like Isidingo for example) to have their day/s in the sun.The pace is almost always true, and it has a longer straight than the Kenilworth old course. You can win from the front or behind.
Maybe an all weather track is a good idea though.

I agree 100%.

Perhaps a jockey can bear me out here, but having ridden around the Durbanville track, I can tell you that it's a heck of a tight turn. You either need a small, nippy horse, or an exceptionally well balanced bigger one. The draws are also a huge factor.
But as some people have pointed out, a good horse will win anywhere as we saw when Variety Club won there recently, so saying that the bigger yards use 'expendable' horses at Durbanville is not entirely true.
2 Oceans - I'm glad action is being taken and would like to assume that this action comprises some sort of consultation with the local owners and trainers to ascertain why the nominations / acceptances were so poor ?

Home of the WS Cox Plate - shithole to us?
Moonee Valley is a tight track with a circumference of only 1,805 metres and a very short straight of only 173 metres. It is a track that suits horses who can lead or take a handy position in a race because if you are too far back turning for home then it will take a herculean effort to be able to win.
Moonee Valley has produced many track specialists including one who has a race named after him and is buried at the track, the mighty Manikato.
Circumference: 1,805 metres
Straight: 173 metres
Direction: Anti-Clockwise
