RacePatterns,
I compile the speed ratings myself based on standard times. The basics were obtained from various books some years back.
Speed ratings work better on the sand than turf (ok in mdns) and are my 'first order' analysis especially as draw advantages are more balanced at the Vall sand these days. Strangely they are not always the same as other compilers yet often similiar....sometimes they make no sense at all then again they can produce good results, same as most other aspects of horseracing..and life.

To The Happy Horseplayer. I used to do my own speedratings (for many years) and I know how many hours goes into the effort. Your ratings are top class HH. Thank you for sharing. I used to buy all the books from the UK and especially the USA( Many thousands of Rands). Out of curiousity, is your speedratings based on Andrew Beyer "speed figures"?
