Durban - An uMhlanga primary school has been promised a donation worth millions from an American property developer to help fund the development of a high school campus.

Officially opened in 2003, uMhlanga College was built to accommodate pre-school and primary school boys and girls.

Robert Muir would donate about R15 million to the school for the building of the first phase of the five-year project, said headmaster Greg Brooks.

The first phase is due to be completed in time for the 2013 academic year, with classrooms to accommodate Grade 8s, a science laboratory and a cricket oval as part of the project.

Pupils at the school were expected to sit for the IEB matric exams for the first time in 2017.

Applications for places were open to pupils from other schools.

Brooks said that the

school would have a focus on academics

What an excellent gesture from Mr. Robert Muir.I hope that they include his name in some form of acknowledgmnt at the school.
Would also be nice if the press ran the story of how an American horse owner is contributing to education in S.A.

Very nice gesture, but with all due respect there are many schools battling here in Durban that could do with the financial assistance, Umhlanga College is pvt school for the elite around Umhlanga and one has to just drive there in the mornings and you would be forgiven if you thought you were in the Investment Cars showroom! I'm not taking any shine of this benevolent gesture just saying !

Yep well Done Mr Muir, but please pass your blessings to the needy. Umhlanga College is a PVT school for the rich and their parents should be donating towards upgrades.

You in for a rough ride but must agree with you on that.

You find these ultra-rich capitalists who have cash to splurge out on 'benevolent' community upliftment projects, yet, on analysis, the benefit is not to those who need it most. In most instances, it becomes publicity for a capitalist, corporate, political spin-off or even religious organisation.

I would expect that some of these mulri-millionaires in the horseracing industry use such to promote entry of not only blacks, but all punters into the industry as owners.

To kick off, find blacks (there are many capable stable assistants who would jump at such an opportunity!)), to set them up as trainers and give them some decent horses. To date, besides Mrs Plattner, I have not noticed all these glib, committed talkers on transformation giving any of their horses to a black trainer (such as K Naidoo, R van Reenen.....any others?)

Add to this, use that 'donation' to set up syndicates of punters (blacks and whites) and lease them horses.

I am not talking about 'free-bees', but, if you giving to a cause.... what the heck if there is good to come out of it for the sake of the industry?

But then, who wants to ensure the survival of the industry except to take as much as possible out of it while the going's good?

To those of us that have families and see our future in SA...the best insurance policy we can take out is to help in ensuring that the majority have what they need to survive...if not the consequences for all of us will be very very bad...please take my word on this!!!

Flash seriously !!!

The Black fat cats are idiots, they steal and get caught. They are a corrupted bunch of wankers. Who do you blame ?
You blame the previous apartheid goverment. The stole so much themselves, if they had a handful of blacks in good goverment positions back then we all would not be in this shit. Its because they were greedy, racist bastards that we all dealing with a corrupt goverment now. People will continue to suffer because of Apartheid for many more years to come.
