Chad puts dad before Team SA
Cape Town - South African swimming sensation Chad le Clos left the world short course championships in Istanbul on Sunday with two medals after he opted out of defending his 200m butterfly crown.
The 20-year-old Durbanite won gold in the 100m butterfly earlier in the week and also bagged silver in the 50m butterfly on Saturday - SA's only two medals from the championships.
He was the favourite to win gold in the 200m - the event in which he claimed gold at the London Olympics earlier this year.
However, sensationally, according to the Beeld
website
, Le Clos failed to turn up for the heats on Sunday morning after deciding to attend the BBC’s Sports Personality Awards in London.
Le Clos also missed out on the heats in the men's 4x100m medley relay. The South African team ended up finishing ninth, missing out on a spot in the final by one position.
Le Clos' dad, Bert, was nominated for Foreign Sports Personality of the Year for the emotional speech he gave following Chad’s gold medal win in London. Bert le Clos lost out to Jamaican sprint sensation Usain Bolt in the final voting.
Giulio Zorzi carried the South African flag in Le Clos' absence at the Closing Ceremony in Turkey on Sunday.
Zorzi was the only other South African to reach a final in Istanbul, when he finished seventh in the men's 50m breaststroke.

Well done to the Le Clos'.
Bert used to own the Castle tattersalls in Pinetown...top draw gentleman.
This act by Chad shows the world how much he thinks of his dad.
Great stuff!

Yet again the British public get screwed over by a TV station. The public were offered to vote for who wanted to win the BBC Sportsman of the year at a cost of 15p per call. One of the presenters announced that the lines were closed for voting. 2 minutes later they announced the top 3. In 3rd place Andy Murray. Murray was not at the award function. Seconds later we see Murray on screen in Miami receiving his award from Lennox Lewis. So let me get this straight. The voting lines closed 2 minutes before the awards were presented yet Murray who is in Miami gets his award presented to him. As I said the British public ripped off once again.

I am on the other side. He let his followers/ South Africa/team mates down. If he was not injured he should have been swimming.

There are always gonna be different views on any subject...that's life...and I respect that.
What about players that leave their teams if their wives are having a baby etc?
Who decides what's more important to an individual anyway?
At the end of the day, one has to determine their priorities in life and stick to it. Same goes with the Williams' sisters in tennis..they decided that their lives are not going to be al about tennis..their choice.
As for Chad..I am with him...family first.
