EIGHT OF 12 RIDERS CONFIRMED FOR INTERNATIONAL JOCKEYS CHALLENGE

THE teams for the Racing Association’s fifth International Jockeys Challenge have almost been finalised.

Four international riders and four South African riders have already confirmed their participation in the challenge, which this year will be sponsored by Avis Coach Charter, and all have ridden in the challenge before.

The Protea team so far comprises the first four on the national jockeys’ log last season, Anton Marcus, Gavin Lerena, Anthony Delpech and Piere Strydom. The confirmed international riders are Richard Hughes, Jamie Spencer, Jimmy Fortune and Tom Queally.

The annual International Jockeys Challenge will be held on Friday night 16 November at Turffontein and Sunday 18 November at Greyville.

According to Phumelela’s Racing Executive Patrick Davis, the challenge had to be postponed for a week because of an unforeseen change in the availability of the European jockeys engaged for the test.

The Victory Moon Stakes will move to 16 November as well, reverting to its previous slot two weeks before the Sansui Summer Cup.

The Vaal meeting scheduled for Saturday 17 November will now be held on 10 November, ensuring a Highveld race meeting that weekend, while the Clairwood meeting scheduled for 18 November will also be shifted back a week and be held at Scottsville.

I'm sure the organisers won't be opposed to me saying that an official invitation has been extended to our Champion Jockey Joao Moreira to ride in this event. I chatted to him this morning and he is thrilled and it looks extremely positive that you will have the privilege of seeing him in action at both Turffontein and Greyville.

This is one of those times that I wish I was there to enjoy the racing as I know how much work goes into organising these events and seeing the world's best is something the racing purists always enjoy.

Morning clan I'm still new @ this but on ma opion I think the young riders should b considerd those who made an impact.On the international side allways lovely 2 c this jocks doing what they do best I think D.Whtye should come nd Frankie Dettori. Offcourse on the South African Team surely Grant Van Niekerk should b considerd.

Randolph should ride all A Laird horses (SA will win ) LOL
