Tigershark, the 25 year average rainfall at Greyville for September is 80mls. They had 278mls. I think that is SLIGHTLY above average!

The problem is going to be when things don't go exactly to plan and there are even less options..
Perhaps a greater allowance for "unforseen circumstances" needs to be part of the business plan...............ie. Cwd in Jan and Greyville in October!

there is without question some areas that gold circle can improve their services and shortfalls but when we start blaming them for something as unpredictable as the rainfall Durban has experienced lately then that is way OTT!

Muthiman, 600sqm of sods were taken off the track and put back when the construction eventually was finished. Those had to then be fitted back above the subway and had to knit properly with the grass that had not been taken off. They also need time to settle and we need a safe track for the horses to race on and when you replacing the sods it takes time and they did not have enough time after the construction was delayed. Just look what happened at Clairwood when they tried to race too soon after sods were put into bad areas of the track.

It is not the inability for the okes not being able to grow a patch of grass that is of concern....its the bigger picture of when they take on a project like laying a polytrack.....just imagine if they miscalculate on timing and have no plan B with Clairwood gone and racing at Shocksville twice a week...
..:(

I think from what I have heard that they giving themselves nearly a year from after the season next year to get it right.

I am now very confused, was it the rain that delayed the building or the lack of sun that caused the grass not to grow??? Either way the statement still means zip because it does not outline what happened. Is transparency this hard????? So when they fell behind with the building due to the rain was there an expectation that the grass would grow faster and be ready in time? The re-scheduling of races could then have happened 4 weeks ago. Owners & punters get angry when statements that contain bull are served up instead of just being transparent.

PS. Craig, the statement contains nothing about building delays, just about grass not growing....

Tigershark if one is delayed then it delays the other. The end result is the grass is not ready . Do you also want to know in the media release, the days that all the staff were not there to carry on with the work or the sick leave days or what days it was too wet to work or the sun did not shine properley etc? Sometimes I wonder why I even bother replying to some of the responses when people dont want to see any side but the bad side. When something is done well you dont see any positive postings. Really am wondering why I even take the time to post on any subject!:X

Tiger the nominations for the 30th were only due in tomorrow so surely that was plenty notice?? also plans are in place to reschedule the meeting considering that Greyville is such an unfair course i cant see the reason for all your complaints??

......Have we all forgotten how G Hawkins was interviewed on Laff's show and smugly announced the procedure with the new tunnel had gone ahead and everything was on track.....this is like the Turffontien lights debacle revisited.....grand plans but deadlines and budgets blown to hell..
