No racing Greyville !
12 years 7 months ago
Inclement weather over the past month has forced Gold Circle to abandon the Greyville night racemeetings scheduled for October 30 and November 6. As a consequence racing action will only return to the City track on Sunday, November 18, when the second leg of the 2012 Avis Coach Charter Jockeys' International, featuring some of the world's best riders, will take place.
Gold Circle's Racing Director Graeme Hawkins explains: "The turf over the recently constructed subway at the 300m marker was re-laid on September 25 and we were hopeful that the track would be ready for racing by October 30. Unfortunately, unfavourable weather conditions - plenty of rain but precious little sunshine - have forced us to adapt our fixtures.
"The track is coming along nicely but it would be taking an unnecessary risk to race over this area prematurely and we have thus decided to reschedule for November 23 and May 17, 2013 respectively."
The racing programmes are being adjusted to embrace the change in fixtures and where necessary races will be added and/or split to cater for demand. The Betting World Guineas Trial will be run on Sunday, November 18, as an added feature on Jockeys' International day but will not form part of the competition.

How does this happen?????????
If the re-planting took place four weeks earlier would the track have been ready?
When planning this, were the potential weather conditions part of the calculations or was perfect rain & sunshine expected?
How do you approach a project hoping it will be ready or work out?
If the planting could only happen once the subway construction was complete and that would obviously lead to delays why commit to a date?
I do not want to be just another whinging Joe Soap but when absolute trite is served up as an official response to why Greyville will not be ready then i get the stone cold needle.
Now we have an idea of the brain power & resources that will go into adding a new track at Greyville. I go back to an earlier posting of mine, i am giving 3/10 that the project of the new track will be a total cock-up frought with delays, ignorance, finger pointing and ultimately a waste of time & good money. This will result in the last bit of money left over from the sale of Clairwood being spent on a new track at a new destination to save racing in KZN........

You would think the circus would of learnt from there mistakes a Clairwood a few months back....
Gold Circle apologises unreservedly to all racing’s stake holders and punters for the inconvenience caused by the abandonment of today’s racemeeting at Clairwood.
Whilst there have been on going problems with certain sections of the course, mainly due to an infestation of goose grass, the race track was declared raceable by officials of Gold Circle and the NHRA following inspections during the course of last week and again on Monday and Tuesday.
“It is worrying that the affected turf at Clairwood has not satisfactorily responded to treatment as a consequence of the very dry, hot and windy conditions that prevailed for the first three weeks of January and clearly we are going to have to tackle the problem from another direction,” said Racing Director Graeme Hawkins.
A full enquiry will be conducted into all of the circumstances which led to the jockeys’ protest after the running of the first race.

PS. What ever happened to that enquiry?

Try this...no try this...no try that...no no try the other thing it worked there....guess artists.....same type of thinking(or lack of it) when they closed down our tracks and in the grand skeem it would be easy a for them to conceptualise the end result.....but getting there takes great practical planning....and not a thumb suck.....:S
