Bad luck mate, surely your trainer should let you know before everyone else does.

Thanks Solo, as most of the more 'senior statesmen' on the site can testify, a tendon injury is bad news - yes it can be treated and the horse rested, but it takes a long time to get over it and there's no guarantee that it will ever be 100% again. Laurel is already 5, so by the time she is ready to run again (if ever) she would be rising 6 - we feel she has done her dash - gave us 3 nice wins and it's time for her to live an easier life - a decision whether to keep her for breeding (in which case she would probably go to Damage is Done) or be a polo pony (she is compact and not too big) will be made during the next few days.

And Roy actually did manage to get hold of me just after I posted - the injury was only discovered this morning and the other partners also had to be informed ...

On a brighter note, Elvis and myself will (touch wood) have a debutant next Thursday - to be ridden by Gunther (tu) - so as one door closes, another opens .....

Flexor tendons don't heal quickly due to poor blood supply in that area, compared to muscles and other tissues.
It's the fibres that are torn in the tendons, imagine a piece of rope that gets frayed in the middle.
Sadly it happens over a period of time and is only noticed when the rope breaks

Sorry to hear that news Frodo, glad the horse gave you pleasure and success and good luck with the new horizon.

A question that has perplexed me for a while... if these workriders are so bad (and some of them seem to be! ;) ) why would you run a half-decent horse in them? It seems to me that if the race for the most part is now deemed to be something of a lottery, why waste a potential success by risking a run with a workrider? And... the main reason I am asking I guess... and I am assuming it is stable money... R3 8 Atsos Ruby, why would a first timer be claimed twice from 25s down to 6s and be risked in a workriders, surely more sensible for a first timer they think might spring a surprise to have a pro on board? The workrider in question has had one place in 8 rides for the trainer. Any views?

Englander from aspect would you say 'RISKED'? bad or inexperienced jockeyship not lethal or neccessarily harmful to the horse.

@ Fogwils it is my opinion that the horses ability is more at play in these races as they generally DO NOT GET the JOCKEYSHIP from the saddle (hence we have the Marcus/Striker factors in races ...just two examples that spring to mind). I reckon the jockey can improve or on the flipside disrupt a horses performance by a few lengths. With the grooms the difference in ability is not as marked..{dons crash helmet in anticipation of being bashed} so the results are closer to the horses ability / fitness on the day.

From a winning/placing aspect Magi... just seems very strange to me that you would put a horse, especially a first timer, you back from 25s to 6s into a workriders, especially when that workrider does not have a very successful return for the stable.

As Greg says.... and also if the horse has the ability they will not be 'out jocked' ?? A more level playing field ?

Claimed again 3/1

Surely they would have got the price irrespective. Could have engaged Anton if they wanted to Magi.
