Depends where his LOYALTY lies.
As for the idea of a loyalty programme, it would be an administration nightmare. Too many unskilled people on racings workforce.
When you still have tote payouts changing after the race is run, one can only imagine how these idiots (read "perceived idiots"), are going to keep track on how many points a punter has accumulated based on amount spent.
Just suppose, something like this does get implemented, the powers that be will probably push for an increase in tax of 1 to 2 percent, to cover admin costs, and we end up with a situation where the punter gets conned into believing that he is benefiting, when in fact he will be paying for that benefit.
On the flip side, after a race has ran, they could just take of an additional amount of the final payout and use this to pay for admin costs. The bread and butter punter would be none the wiser.

The fact that the tote or race courses still don’t have loyalty programs just boggles the mind – absolute proof that a bit of leteral thinking to them is a strange concept.
A casino will absolutely insist on you joining their particular program – you get free cinema tickets, restaurant vouchers, tickets to shows, free car washes etc. etc.
All you get from the tote are sulky tote operators and a website that is slow

Do what the casinos do...
Issue cards it will be up to the punter to either take that card, or not, every XX amount spent you get XX back on your card, so that when you eventually accumm XX points, you can use that points to take a "free bet" (a lot like how the ebucks programme works with FNB)
It should be part of the business model, surely it would lead to more spend at the totes
Fair enough that the implementation of such a system Nationally could result in a small fortune, but maybe they should roll it out slowly, at "key locations" see how it fairs and then take it from there, for the guys who play TABonline, could have the card linked to there online account so that all bets out there earns the XX points

I know this is the wrong thread...but pure fantasy...
What if...
You bought an exotic ticket....PA, P6...for any amount...eg R50 bucks
now using the PA as an example....
Leg 1 you pick however many selections...your R50 goes on equally...
Payout goes forward to the next leg....
Leg 2 you pick however many selections...your R?? goes on equally...
Payout goes forward to the next leg....
You don't play a leg for whatever reason...you get all on the Fav(or some decided rule)...
We're in the age of supercomputers...surely this could be a reality....
What says you?

Problem with this is that lets say you chose 5 horses to win in 3 races....R50/5 =R10 on each horse....after leg 1 your horse wins and pays R2.60...you now have R26/5 = R4.20 on each horse in the next race....after leg two you win at R3.40...now have R14.28/5 = R2.856 on each horse....last leg you catch it big and pays R9.30...= R26.5608
What i'm trying to imply is that you will get mug punters playing with R50 playing many selections that the input into the pool for each horse will be very messy/small prices.
Secondly i dont really think its a system that could work too well on the tote, each selection being split...its the same kind of principle as a Jackpot for example, but that is a fixed amount going into a pool, whereby each leg you are competing with other ticket holders of the same bet, not individual bets.
May not make much sense, but its been a long day, but maybe you can kind of gather where im coming from :S

I dont see the local pub saying to their drinkers. Here boys heres a few bottles of Scotch for you. Or the local drug dealer on the corner giving you a free weeks supply. Or those who visit the knock shop on a weekly basis the madam giving you a free blow job because you are a good customer. What about the garage owner where you put your fuel in. I have never seen him run out and say hey Mr Chips this tanks on me and all because my motor is a petrolium adict. Get real you get nothing for nothing its 2013. Horse racing is an addiction to most and once they got you why should they give you a freebie.

The rain in Scotland is free!
No truth in the rumour that tin copper wire was invented by 2 Scots fighting over a penny.

Greg I am pretty sure it is the betting vouchers that get drawn in the Elevation Room. Haven't seen any other loyalty programme for on course punters.
