I am always impressed by individuals who actually manage to smear themselves in high performance cars.

They stick like the proverbial to a blanket insofar as handling is concerned and with all the modern technological aids do most of your driving for you - even under extreme conditions.

Nevertheless - add in some reckless bravado, drugs and/or alcohol and you can still end up swapping your metal for a wooden box.

On the topic of exotic cars I had a serious giggle moment involving a Ferrari just after Xmas.

We were toddling down from PE and stopped just outside of Mossel Bay to refuel. A blood red Ferrari dramatically roared in and pulled up at the front entrance to the forecourt shop in full view of all the re-fuelling vehicles and slap bang in the clearly demarcated 'no parking' area. A newly advantaged popped out, adopted his best sphagetti western pose, leaned against a nearby pillar and lit up a substantial cigar whilst smirking at all the kids who had quickly gathered around. I was then royally entertained whilst a succession of oversized SUVs passed driven by previously advantageds who, judging by their prickling moustaches, were both envious and irritated by the scene. Only in South Africa! Or maybe in the deep south of the USA too.......

Eventually the Ferrari driver blasts off ( and I mean BLASTS OFF ) -without starting a fire from smoking in a service station right next to the pumps- and disappears in the direction of Cape Town.

And then this is where the universe intervenes and makes a fool of him ;

There is a massive veldt fire raging alongside the N2 about 10 clicks further down the road. This results in a diversion off the tarred road and onto a very dusty, very rough gravel road for a journey of about 45 minutes. Not quite what a Ferrari was designed for!

I trust he enjoyed the bone jarring ride at 25kph and succesfully navigated the road without shedding all his groundskirts!

You should see all the flashy cars the newly advantage drive in Limpopo Province. I kid you not, I did not see one under the purchase price of R400 000while in the Kruger Park northern area last December... Me think i know why the province is under administration .. lol

Two conflicting reports about the incident apparently ...Citizen P.3; cop's version and a blogger's version who claims to have witnessed the incident!

Allegedly, the driver was 'in possession of dagga.'

I think its a matter of choice! I know previously advantaged people who own expensive horses but have no dress sense and drive old cars!i

I would guess they were either going back to the drivers house or to an Autobank.

Some of the posts here in response to an accident that claimed the lives of 2 people (fathers / husbands / sons etc) are an indication of the deteriorating society that we are living in (td)

Spare a thought for the families of the deceased before going off on a tangent with wild, fact-less accusations!:(

Would not surprised me.....heard on the radio a clip from a witness that saw the cop car and the R8 travelling along side each other and exchanging banter before the R8 took off......no self respecting fathers should be trolling Oxford Rd in the wee hours anyway......the cops are notorious for targeting anything that moves in a vehicle in the Sandton precinct and even law abiding citizens are harassed for bribes......I have been pulled off 4 times in the past year(and evenIhardly go out after hours) in the early evening and have witnessed at least a dozen pull overs when I have not been stopped myself......Warning these cops are the biggest thugs hiding under the pretext that they are doing a civic duty but instead are enriching themselves.....they would not dare stop cars that have passengers for fear that they will stumble on a criminal gang or have witnesses to their bribery sceams
