WHY CAN'T THE NHA....????:X
12 years 1 month ago
Am starting A NEW THREAD as this issue requires some discussion!
2 questions for the NHA:
1. Why can't the NHA have barrier trials for horses (2yr old and rested, etc)?
2. Why not have trainers disclose the situations in their stables (innoculations, rested, whatever..!) day before each meeting as a comprehensive media release?
The betting public has every right to such information as horseracing (as a gambling event) cannot be isolated and/or exempted from the other forms of gambling where transparency is paramount. Owners and trainers who do not want to divulge such info must be kicked out of the industry as they are then dastardly parasites living off the ignorant / unprotected punting public (they regard horseracing as their own exclusive domain like the foreigner Guptas who have their 'Little India'!).
Punters should submit this inconsistency to the National Gambling Board and demand that there be full disclosure by law since the NHA remains totally incompetent to deal with this serious issue which is in conflict with the Constitution.
If there is non-compliance, then the licence for gambling should be revoked...simple solution!
I agree with Observer (not about the coup), but the sudden dramatic turn-around is a concern for those of us who study / follow form, whether there was money for it or not! On its last run, where it was very favourably drawn on the outside in a 1200m straight, it finished 50 lengths behind the winner and the report is it 'dwelt, did not persevere...'
Now.... this?
Or, am I (like many others) missing something?

Thanks Umlilo for putting the message across in such a professional manner.
I need to be more careful about my choice of words in future, when trying to get a message across.
There are hundreds, if not thousands of punters who have made similar observations, but do not have the means to convey their views, and a lot of these punters are becoming more disgruntled with the game of racing.

to me the problem lie with the fact that jockey club do not report to no body. it should report to the gambling board or at least have the ombudsman when their is desputes.

Did this not happen a short while ago at a KZN meeting, Racing was abandoned for the day.
I agree with Umlilo views. IMHO to increase the CUSTOMER base the name of the game is TRANSPARENCY, not insider trading. Not that this will cure all evils but then Punters can at least have a more educated guess and not just blindly.

boys one thing i all ways laugh about is the thought of people that owners/trainers/jockeys have the "inside" info. if i tell you the mistake i make for 30 year is to listen to the trainer/jockey who give me the "info" on my horse/other horse. 95% of this info is land up in the dust bin. let me tell you the problem is their is only one winner in one race and in any race their is at least 5 trainer/jockey that think this is them. the best advise i give any body is ignore all the so call "inside" info and trust in computerform only

The problem is simple:
a)The NHA do not report to anybody(as admitted to parliament) and the question is: normally you report to whoever gave you authority......where is the authority for the NHA to regulate??(self appointed by their sponsors?????)
b)The board of the NHA consists of merely a group of "positions" from other areas of racing and is ,in the main, totally unqualified to understand the rules or what their purpose is!
c)the latest review and amendments of the rules is a complete joke and supports the above points.
Regulation is hard enough when you know what you doing ...........when you don't ,it's impossible

Thats why we all love racing, because it's on the cutting edge, literally. Remember a few years back, racing was on the decline in South Africa, I could stand to correction but I do remember something about Turffontein almost closing their course. Through some very clever marketing and drawing in youngsters (I mean of age) into syndicates, racing has had a second wind and has now become a very popular means of gambling. Punters such as myself enjoy the human and animal factor, I enjoy knowing my bet is constructed through comprehensive form studying and sometimes a few whispers
and to me I always believe i'm on the right horse.
Problem is, all stables have to earn an income, all horses need to be fed, all trainers need to be paid and all jockeys need to earn a living and their means is horse racing. Form is a great tool and made available through a few mediums, it's a guide and only a guide. Our selections even on this forum vary day to day, course to course and yet we can all find a very valid reason for liking a specific horse, for instance the breeding, stable's form, trainer comments, jockey comments or even the grooms verdict. I do agree that more attention should be paid to monitoring the sport. Punters want to know why their horse ran so poorly, why isn't there another replay of the finish, why aren't there other camera angles to show the photo finish, how did a horse suddenly find form, why was the horse pulled up or why didn't the jockey try or stop riding. Too many why's in racing but there is a solution... Do what they do in Singapore, insert chips which monitor position and performance. How often is there an enquiry when a 50/1 wins in Singapore? answer is never.

I love the benefits of the chip use in Singapore but the benefit is mainly TV coverage of the race.I don't see how it would be used to monitor fitness and soundness etc. though :S

Correct rob, but at least you know that when taking a bet it's on the horse claimed to race. Performance and post race procedures are very strict in Singapore and the FDX-B chips if I'm not mistaken can report certain variations. Point being though that punters are well informed and post race procedures are very strict.
