I have a small share in Dame Victoria. First time when it won, trainer advised quartet. Horse won at 50/1. Only had R100 places. on saturday trainers says small eachway chance. Horse is tipped by Dees. i was no way near a tote. Only had R100 eachway which I took on Friday only beacuse i had an interest. On Saturday, I was so desperate to take a bet, i put another R200 on tote. Horse wions and I get the worse price R4.50 on tote for 13/2 horse which opened 14s. None of the the other owners backed it big as well. Thats racing guys. today trainer says proper pretty will run a big race. No confidence for a big bet. I bet it starts 10-12/1 race time.

GVZ just gave KZN bookies a roasting, basically said they were being unfair on everyone, particularly stables and owners. If I understood him correctly, he was saying the bookies would show a horse at say 12s and then move it completely unreasonably to much much shorter based on someone having a R500 bet. Says he thinks they put the opening prices out there just as feelers and you can't have a proper bet at those prices. Said they are always the winners in such circumstances and it was not right.
Seems he had something of a similar situation with the owners of Emerald Oz (2nd in the 2nd at Scotts) as Oscar had, though he did at least communicate with the owners regarding the horse's chances.

10/1 this horse at the off was a generous price. Good last run with 4 subsequent winners in the field. Plus a big jockey strike.
This horse cold never have been a 33/1 shot.

Most of the time the trainer doesn't know the horse will win. The jockeys, workriders and stablehands know when a horse is ready to win. I have seen a jockeys wife place large winning bets. So I would not always put the blame on the trainer

I don't think ANY trainer can know any horse will WIN. But what they should know from the way
the horse has been working out and it's current well being is that it has a fair chance. As an owner
I would expect my trainer to advise me accordingly. imo.
